Hair loss and plastic surgery

Hi folks,

I am at about 5 months post-op for my WLS and losing lots of my hair every day.  I've heard that it can be caused by the shock of the WLS.  That said, have any of you veteran plastic surgery folks experienced hair loss like you did for your WLS?  I ask because I hope to have some plastic surgery someday but don't want to lose the hair I have left.

Thanks!

They say it grows back after a year. I sure hope they are right as I have a 3" diameter bald spot on the back of my head.  My hair thinned a bit after WLS but it grew back after a year or so. Just keep your protein intake up.

Anesthesia can cause hair to thin (it puts the growth cycle to sleep).  You often don't wee the impact until about 3 months after the anesthesia and if you have multiple surgeries it does compound the problem.  The good news is that in most cases the hair does eventually start coming back.  I lost a lot of hair after having 3 procedures in 7 or 8 months!  I just had my 4 surgery in 10 months and really hope I don't lose any more!

Best wishes to you

I had a complete second round of hair loss following four post-RNY surgeries (hernia repair, panni, arms/mons, and TT) in one year.  Might have been a combination of too many roundsof anesthesia or may have been tied to the TT incision turning necrotic (and the STRESS of it... I had to be on anti-anxiety meds for several weeks to just be able to clean and dress the gaping, disgusting wound in my belly)...

I am 2 years out fron my RNY and the hair that I lost from months 4-9 post-RNY are still only 2-3 inches long.  The hairs that came out earlier this year after the January TT are only an inch long.
