Quick and dirty.. the lymphatic system as it relates to healing is responsible for the movement of fluids within the body's tissues.  Often after surgery, a patient tends to deal with swelling or edema that can be be reduced by proper massage toward lymph nodes.

There's an interesting series of videos clips here..

that help to explain where the nodes are and what to expect from a lymphatic massage.

You can do some of it yourself at home.  After my medial thigh lift, my plastics surgeons office told me to go to a craft store and get a little wooden roller  or something similar to the image  www.cakeandcandy.com/easeroller.jpg  and use it on my legs starting at the knee and moving upward.  Also I could use it on my arms.. same way.. upward..  inward from my sides to my belly button and upward from my breasts to my neck (or just do that by hand)

With my LBL I actually went for several weekly visits to a massaged therapist trained in lymphatic drainage massage.

oh good info!  I did not know that.  I have a "STICK" that I use for muscle soreness.  That will work awesome.

VSG on 12/11/07 with
Lymphatic drainage massage:  I had four treatments starting at six weeks post lipo.
It's a very gentle massage but I didn't want anybody touching me earlier than that.
It felt good and I think it helped.  Barb
