surgery is NOT my friend!

I had a TT, Breast lift & aug 4 years ago after losing  168 lbs with WLS.  I definitely needed a revision but postponed.  ..... Long story but short version is that I am now working for an amazing Post Bariatric Plastic Surgeon here in AZ.  He does fabulous work and I'm anxious to have the next stages done and the 1st procedures "fixed" from the other plastic surgeon I went to.

BUT....I'm a surgery whimp!  Seriously, I don't do well with pain and my last surgery (a revision to ERny) was a rough recovery.

My question!  "If" my labs aren't perfect but just barely good enough, do you think I should go ahead and schedule?  Or should I just take my time pushing protein and vites and try to get things in better condition?  Will it really matter that much?

Anyone go into surgery with questionable labs?

I'm planning on an implant exchange, a TT tweak and possibly the belt lipectamy (back side of the body lfit or a butt lift).

I haven't been on this forum in ages.  It's so fun to read about everyone's experiences and challenges.  Sooooooo exciting!

I would think that if your labs were an issue the surgeon would not operate.

Good point!  A year ago HE wouldn't operate.  This year, labs are better, within acceptable ranges BUT.....I've worked so hard getting them to this place that I fear the huge setback a surgery may create.

I'll admit to being a whimp!  LOL!

this was the exact question I asked my plastic surgeon.  I was unsure about my labs because my bypass surgeon was still waiting on the results and I feared they were not good.  I am terribly afraid of dying or being in a veg state.  I think anything other than that, I can handle.  I knew my PS was going to do lab work before the surgery and I didn't know what it was.  When I spoke with my PS staff, I just let it out. I told her about my fear of dying and how my labs are not perfect.  She said not too worry, they were only testing me for pregnancy and anemia.  I had surgery and so far everything went well.  I would call my PS and talk to them about your labwork.  I was worried about my vits and protein, well hell, all of it.  I make sure I am on top of taking my vits every day and I try to work on my protein.  Def talk with your PS and bypass surgeon. He can order a full set of labs and check them and see if there are any problems.  Good luck to you!!

I'll be getting a new set of labs this month.  REPORT card time!  LOL!

So, may I ask what you had done?  Did you end up having any issues?

I had a BA, scar revision, lipo on my thighs and inner thigh lift.  I plan on having a LBL sometime in the near future.  I did not have any issues.

I think that nutrtion etc is very important to the whole healing process after each surgery.  And would push as much nutrition into my body as possible for at least a month preceeding ANY surgery.

Since you're asking for advice . . .

. . . why hurry?  Get yourself in top physical condition before you go unde the knife.  It certainly can't hurt, and it can't take more than what ... a couple of months?

Healing does NOT get easier as we get older.  Start out at the top of your game -- really!!!

I'm 49, just had a circumferential somethingorother, and the pain is a b*tch.  I seem to be healing just fine, but my tolerance for pain is not at all what it was, years ago.  Maybe it wasn't that great years ago either, and it's been tempered by time, but I'm in pain NOW two and a half weeks post-op, and trying hard not to be a baby about it.
