Ok, ive posted here before but i keep on thinking. and my thoughts keep going back and forth. I did however make an appointment w/ my WLS surgeon finally for those that kept up w/ that part. I go see him next week. Im at 190lbs. ive been here for quite some time. well actually i had gained up and ive lost 25lbs but i cant seem to lose anymore. Im going to try and try and try to lose some more before December...but my question is.. Should i go ahead and consult w/ plastic surgeons to get an idea of what needs to be done or what can be done? or should i wait and see if i lose those 30lbs first? it isnt going to make or break the plastics i dont think... but i keep thinking "what if i get it done while im 190lbs and im not flat like i think i'll be" All i keep hearing from everyone is "Hilary your going to be so skinny once that excess skin is removed" BUT i dont know how to tell what is excess skin and whats fat. im just way confused! Please help!!!

thank you!

I don't see any harm in getting a consult now. Why not?

I had my first consults by chance at an OH event. I thought I had to be at goal to consider plastics. I thought I was about 50-60 pounds from goal...but after consulting with about 4 plastic surgeons they all agreed (independently of each other) that perhaps I should only lose another 20.

Go set the consult and don't worry about numbers on the scale.

I'd go see the doc.  He will tell you whether or not he needs you to lose the other 30; some like to work with a little extra, depends on your anatomy.  You need to be aware that your belly just may never be "bounce a dime off me" flat.  Excess skin is gushy, it pulls away and feels paperthin almost, you can roll it in your fingers.  If you are picking up a one inch roll with stuff in the middle, that's fat.  Don't sit around making up numbers in your head, talk to a doc and get a real game plan going.  It'll help motivate you.

Skin doesn't weigh as much as you think. I lost about 10 pounds of abdominal skin after losing 220 pounds.

Yep, What Shari said.  I lost just shy of 200 lbs and my skin was 7 lbs taken off with a circumfrential lower body lift.  Really the call is more yours and what you want.

I went on five consults before I selected my surgeon and they all told me the same thing:  it's best to be at your rock bottom on surgery day for any body contouring procedure.  I had my LBL at 155 pounds, lost 6 pounds of skin and fat and it took another two years to take off the final 10.  Get your consults now but do your best to try and take off at least 20 more.  Don't rely on plastics to remove the last remaining weight - like the gals above said - it's doesn't amount to much.

Good luck.

HI!
Based on all the consults I went on (many, many!) and what I've read from other posters plus my own experience I would recommend you get closer to your goal.  All the surgeons I met with said I should be at my goal or at least within 10-15 lbs of my goal.  Most surgeons want you to be at goal and to have maintained the lose or mean stable for about 6 months before they will do surgery.

BUT...........there is no reason why you can't start going on consultations now.  Just tell the surgeons what your goal is and how much more you want to lose, they will guide you.  It can take a long time to find the right surgeon so start now......
