Age a Factor???
I am 56, i had a abdominoplasty & hysterectomy at the same time in Dec,
inner thigh lift butt & back in March.
I recovered very well & healed like a champ even my Dr. was surprised at how well & fast I healed and I am still Diabetic. 2 weeks before surgery I doubled up on my protein powder it helps in the healing process. for the first surgery I was suppossed to stay in the hospital for 5 days because of the hysterectoy and I was discharged after 2 days. as soon as I was allowed up I walked as much as I could and it helped with all the gas as far as pain I only took tylenol pot-op because I am allergic to morphine & Dilaudid makes me so nauseous I could just die . the pain was more of discomfort.
Don't worry you will do fine
Good Luck
Susan

Thank you Susan. I needed that positive reinforcement. I am diligent with my protein anyway, but I will be even more so, as you suggest the 2 weeks before my surgery. I hope I can come on here after I'm done with the same synopsis of my recovery. Glad to hear you did so well. Thanks for sharing your info. Jeanine
Hi Jeanine, I'm 59 and had an extended TT, muscle tightening, lipo and a baseball size umbilical hernia repair done on 2/25/09 and except for less than expected pain for about 2 weeks and constipation, I came through with flying colors!! My PS said that the muscle repair was the biggest part of it. I don't know if I was just lucky or the skill of my PS, but I never had any of the problems that I hear so much of on this forum. No seromas, nausea, wound separation, infections, swelling or anything!! I had anticipated having excruciating pain, but, happily, not as much as I had thought. The drains are annoying but necessary. Make sure you take a stool softener!! Good luck with any plastics you have done, you will love it, but, be careful, they are addictive!! :) LOL Edited to add that I took Vicodin, I think some of the others may cause nausea.

OK...great. I truly appreciate all this wonderful advice. My bowels are very regular, never had any problem with any surgeries and I have Colace here to take, so I will do that just in case. Since I've had 4 kids my surgeon will be working on some muscle, which I hear is the painful part, but I have a pretty high tolerance so we'll see. With all the great advice I'm getting here, I will say my fears are lessening. Thank you and all the message boarders so much!! Jeanine
I'm 44 and had LBL and brachioplasty April 8th. I've healed nicely without any complications and my scars are fading as well.
I'm saving for my breasts next so hopeully by March of next year I'll be able to get them done.
I did get nauseas when my dressings were changed for the first 3-4 days but I never threw up. I haven't thrown up from RNY either.
Good luck with your plastics. Debi

I had a abdominoplasty at 64 and I am getting a breast reduction on 8/26. My recovery from TT was normal the only problem I had iwas anesthesia it was a 6 hour procedure and I had a difficult time coming out of the anesthesia. My PS is using a different anesthesia for breast surgery and the procedure is shorter about 3-3.5 hours. I'm 66 now. I didn't
have any nausea but the morphine made me itch like crazy but benadryl helped.
And you think you are old !!!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I believe as women, we never stop wanting to be attractive. I respect those who work at it, unlike the ones who just let themselves go and never realize their potential for beauty. Age is harsh enough on our skin & bodies. I say anything we can do to defy the odds is a good thing! Applause to you for what you've done & are doing!! Good luck with everything!! Jeanine
thank you for your good wishes. I am a little worried but have complete faith in my PS. those from OH her name is DR. Jennifer Butterfield. She is awesome, she is keeping me in hospital overnight or longer if needed. That helps my fear factor. I did lots of abdominal exercises, about 100 crunches
a day. I didn't have to have my muscle cut which I think reduced the pain.
Good Luck and best wishes to everyone who is going to go down PS route. I have two compression garmets for TT and will give them to anyone if you can pay shipping. Largest one is 2x worn right after surgery then I went to an X-LARGE. They zip and have hooks as well.
e-mail me if inerested at [email protected]
Take care all
