HI ALL-

I am about 7 years old this august. I have a hernia, not that big..But I am curious....would insurance cover a hernia/tummy tuck? I have aetna insurance.

Also can I get an estimate of prices?

Thanks

Rachael

Call your insurance company. A lot of people get it covered but mine would only cover the hernia repair (I had 2 - one of which had already been repaired twice and reoccured) as a SEPARATE surgery and not with my TT. This was even though 4 different PS told me I would get a better repair if it was done with a TT.

Most of my tummy tuck was paid by insurance due to my hernia. I have no idea of cost.

My Primary Care Physician refered me to my plastic surgeon with a brief medical history and why, in his opinion, I needed a TT.  The plastic surgeo; Dr. Melissa Johnson, then evaluated me and summit the paper work along with pictures to my insurance; my insurance approved the surgery in less than one month.  I am not sure about the prices/costs.  Good Luck!

My PCP referred me to the plastic surgeon regarding the hernia. The plastic surgeon agreed that we should submit requesting panniculectomy and tummy tuck as medically necessary with hernia repair. Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas approved in 3 weeks, no fuss, no problem.

My out of pocket expense has been under $2000.

Most of the companies differentiate between tummy tuck and hernia repair these days and may not cover what they feel is cosmetic.

However, even if the TT is not covered you will still end up having the hospital stay and some of the OR an anesthesia costs covered.

BC/BS paid for the pannus bbut not the muscle repair/TT-- brought price down by $3k. Because I was already having an elective procedure (the muscle repair) the hernia only landed me two nights free stay at the hospital, (about $800) and no further discounts, as Dr L described.
