I'm sore and miserable! Anybody have insurance cover LBL or butt skin removal?
My three-year anniversary is just around the corner, and I cannot stand my sore butt one more day! I have a flap of loose skin that hangs over my poor bony tailbone, and sitting in any one position for more than 15 minutes causes misery. The loose skin kind of slides back and forth over the tailbone and chafes and aches. Has anybody had luck with insurance covering either an LBL/butt lift/loose skin removal for this reason? I have some loose skin on my stomach and a very small pani, but it's not terrible, and even though a TT would be wonderful, I can live with that if I had to, but it's this sore tush of mine that really drives me crazy. I have MESSA BC/BS.

Boy do i know what your talkin about. For quite some time now i have the most painful tailbone.
I have been asking if natural skinny people walk around with sore tailbones. This past few weeks has been really bad because i have been in a sitting position more recovering from my anchor tummy tuck and breast lift. I had to get a donut for my chair and that really relieved a lot of pressure from that area. I am going back to the surgeon in two weeks for a check up as well as schedule my surgery for my arms in september. I am going to ask him about a butt lift and if that will help the tailbone and if by chance its covered but i am having my doubts.
Wishing you the best

I had been told that tailbone issues get better the further you are out, but mine seems worse. I know that my insurance says it will not cover plastic surgery "for beautification purposes," and this is DEFINITELY not for beauty, it's for my comfort. So, my WLS just sent me a list of plastic surgeons that specialize in post-bariatric work, so we'll see what one or two has to say.

Julie,
I have found that insurance companies take a very conservative view of what is cosmetic verses reconstructive. I am having a lower body lift with butt augmentation and thigh lift and none of it is covered.
It doesn't hurt to try. If your PCP is willing to support you in needing this for medical reasons, give it a whirl! Especially if you have a history of complaints/issues related to this, as it seems you do.
Good luck!

I just talked to one plastic surgeon in GR and they said that not even MESSA covers something like this. They will cover a panniculectomy, but not even the muscle tightening, nor the backside. I'm going to try contacting MESSA, but doubt I'll get many answers from them. They usually say "You have to submit the claim before we will review it." The docs office told me that a circumfrential "tuck" (so the front and the back) would cost about $11-13,000 dollars, in their own surgical center. She said to knock off a couple of thousand that insurance would cover for the panni removal. Are you having your surgery in Chicago?

I don't know anything about PS for this, but I totally understand where you are coming from! I have excess skin on my butt as well and at times I will sit or lay down and think that something it under me, so I shift, and I realize it is a fold of excess skin that has caused the discomfort...it is really irritating!
Good luck with your search to see if that is covered!
