I used the smiley with sunglasses on purpose, because I had an eye-bag-ectomy (lower bleph) as well as a bat-wing-ectomy (brachio), and I have two black eyes!

It has been tougher than I expected, but I feel much better now.  The surgery was Friday morning, and I was supposed to go home that evening, but they couldn't get me on my feet.  I kept almost passing out, so they had to keep me overnight.  I finally got home early afternoon on Saturday.  I felt like crap until Sunday afternoon, when I took a real turn for the better.  It is that 48-hour thing with anesthesia, I suppose.  Anyway, no real pain unless I move my arms too much ... which is easy to do, because I don't really have a loss of motion.  The eyes throb a little, but nothing much.

My follow-up with the surgeon is tomorrow, when he plans to take the drains out of my arms and I guess I get to see the gory results!  My right arm is purple almost to the wrist but the left one not much past the elbow.  I have purple arm pits, and I can see the top of the incisions there.  They are ropy but fine.  Getting the drains out will do wonders for me.  Also changing the arm wraps, because they smell like B.O., HA!

Oh sounds like the first few days were tough.  YIKES scary.  Glad your feeling better.  Take it nice and easy so you can heal fast.  Want to see pictures when your better.

Where did you have this surgery done, Atlanta? I'm up in the Rome area, had my breasts lifted (no implants) and my arms done too. In January this year. I didn't have any drains. No bruising either. Dr Robinson here in Rome did mine. Great physician, great results. Sounds like you have had it abit tougher. Best of luck. Don;t try to do too much too soon. I learned quickly that relaxing and taking my pain medications were the best things I could do to heal.

Hi Jan :-)  Yes, I had it done in the Atlanta area -- Decatur, actually, at DeKalb Medical.  My surgeon, Joseph Woods, works out of there and Piedmont.  I chose him because I used him in 2003 when I had a breast reduction and tummy tuck.  He had come highly recommended, and he *is* wonderful!  I don't blame him for the bruising; I bruise VERY easily anyway, and I was covered with bruises before I went in, so I think that, even though I have been careful, some vitamin or supplement I have been taking is a bit of a blood thinner.  I researched all I take well beforehand and cut out the ones that said they cause bruising, but I missed something.  And yes, I'm sure I have used my arms and hands more than I might have done.  Even sitting here at the computer makes my right arm swell a little!  Anyway, I am well on the mend and feel better and better each day!          --Dorothy

Glad to hear you've gotten over those first few days.  They are always the worst aren't they?  How long will you be off of work?  My arms are the next thing I plan to have done.  Just scared of the scars.

Hi, myo6ds -- Yes, I always forget from surgery to surgery how under it I feel the first couple of days, so when they ask if I have any problems with anesthesia, I always say no.  I think I'll remember from now on!

The surgeon said to stay off work for two weeks, and I won't go back to my church music director / organist job for almost a month, but one of my jobs is a very easy (in the summer anyway) desk job, so I will ask him if I could go back to that three hours a day next week.  It will have been a week and a half at that point.  I will also see three or four adult piano students next week, but they will have to write their own assignments in their books, HA!  And I won't be demonstrating brilliant technique at the piano, either :-)

And as far as scars go, they are going to be doozies, I imagine, but I had so much skin that I flapped and slapped when I conducted my choirs.  Couldn't stand it!  And the disfiguration of the loose skin was waaay uglier than scars will be.  At 56, I've got no business wearing revealing clothing anyway!  At least I will be able to find shirts that FIT now!!          --Dorothy
