Fever 3.5 days out. Doc not concerned too much???
Today was 3 days out for me from full TT and BL and I was doing my walking...5 minutes 4-6 times. I took a shower. Pain was manageable with the pain meds. I was mostly on a recliner but also sat at the kitchen table for dinner and in a chair outside for some fresh air.
Tonight I had ice on my tummy and breasts which I've been doing somewhat regularly and all the sudden was just freezing cold. I thought maybe it was the ice, but I was still freezing.
Sure enough, I had a 102 fever.
I'm on antibiotics orally and had antibiotics IV in the hospital. I'm taking a blood thinner and wearing the compression stockings on my legs most of the day, so most likely not a blood clot. The incisions look good, no redness or anything.
So doctor thinks it'll clear up by doing my deep breathing. (I forgot to take hom the spirometer from the hospital). So he has me doing 20 deep breaths every 15 minutes for an hour and to do that fairly frequently. He'll see me in his office tomorrow night if I sitll have fever.
Does this sound right? I do have some phlegm that I can't seem to get out because I'm so afraid to cough that I keep it in. I've been trying more to cough and get it out.
Any other thoughts?
Other than the fever, I'm doing surprisingly well, better than I thought I'd be doing. I'm still sleeping on the recliner downstairs but that's more for safety reasons considering my 3-year-old likes to come in bed with us in the middle of the night and I don't want to risk her sleeping on top of me.
Thanks,
Rachel

This is just a guess but it sounds like your doc is right.. atalectasis... which is fluid or basically "junk"/phlegm in your lungs that needs to come up... you gotta try to cough and get it up, trust me I remember the pain, it hurt so bad. But put a pillow on your stomach while u have your compression garment on and cough while splinting the pillow against your abdomen. This makes the fever go down if that is truly what is causing it. Good luck!

Rachel,
I am 11 days out and have been running fevers everyday. My dr said the same to keep using breathing machine.
Fevers up to 101, while annoying, are probably normal for me. I have seen Dr 6 x's since surgery and he monitors me closely. 101++ is high and you need to stay on top of it with your Dr.
My surgeon says we have an injury, a "controlled injury" ...constant contact with them is imperative!
I am back at work today and can't even believe it!
I wish you the best,
Pat

Rachel,
I am 6 wks out this Wed from a TT with muscle repair and I've ran a fever pretty much since my surgery. It ranges anywhere from 99-101. It has gotten up to 102.8 and that was last tuesday night after he injected my belly with Tetracycline to try to get the fluid build up to stop. I was put on Keflex last wed and my temp is pretty much back to normal but last night it did get back up to 101. I'm a nurse so I have ruled out everything I know it could be. I am having some issues with fluid build up and have had to have it drawn off 4 times. My PS sent a specimen for culture and it came back negative for infection. This past Sat, an area on my healed suture line opened back up and now the fluid is draining itself. I'm pretty much chalking the fevers up to the fact that my body has been thru a traumatic event and this fluid keeps building up and irritating it. My PS doesnt seem to be worried about it....until it got up to 102.8. (He feels that was due to a reaction to the tetracycline.)
