lasering for scars?

I believe someone on this board mentioned they were getting some sort of treatment (lasering?) to reduce scar redness and visibility. I'm wondering if any could share their experiences -- painful? rough cost? and how long before improvement? I can't seem to find that person's postings on the subject.
