Question about drains

I am 10 days post-op from TT.  I have two drains, one on each hip.  The left side is draining between 25 and 50cc a day and it thin liquid stained reddish pink.  The right side is barely draining at all - it was draining 25cc or so of the same type of fluid but day before yesterday it turned really dark and it's only about 10 cc.  On Tuesday, it was dark and thick like blood.  Yesterday and today it's still dark but thinner.  I called my doc about it b/c I thought I might be bleeding internally and he told me to take it easy for a couple of days to see if it would stop.  I'm just concerned and he didn't seem to be all that concerned with it.  What do you all think?  Has anyone ever had dark colored drainage this many days out?

I had 3 drains total, 2 were in for 3 weeks and 1 was in for 4 weeks. The entire time all my drains discharged fluid that looked like blood, thick & dark!!  Although he said it should look like pinkish apple juice, my PS did not appear to be concerned, but he did say that he thought that right after my surgery I may have bled a little inside, but that I was not bleeding anymore. But, I never had any complications at all! Did it hurt when they took out the drains? Mine are supposed to come out Monday.

I've had three drains removed so far and no it didn't hurt. I just felt a little pressure. I was amazed at how long the drains are. Good luck I have two more in and I'm praying they come out by week three but who knows?

tugging and presuure i can handle. I hope it doesn't hurt.

Actually, it just has a tugging feeling. I wasn't sure what to expect, so I just took a big deep breath and, poof, it was over!!

Yeah, th same with the RY drains. I took a deep breath and gone. But those hurt.

Yes, that does make me feel a litte bit better!  I don't have any of the other symptoms of losing blood (I did that after my RNY) so I should probably stop worrying about it...easier said than done ;)

I am 6 days out tomorrow will be one week friday. I have two drains also, not coming out of my hips, way lower.

One drain is between 20-40 cc, very dark red. The other is between 15-25 cc, lihtly tinged pink. So maybe its the way it goes?

Thank you so much for telling me that!  I was convinced something was wrong with me - but now I feel better.  My aunt told me that with drains, it's a crapshoot.  You just don't know what will happen.  I know one thing - I will be so relieved when they come out!
