Question about healing from multiple procedures

I'm lucky-- my mom (and ex-nurse) is going to help me with my recovery, at her home in Virginia.

On June 25th I am having an anchor cut abdominoplasty, mastopexy (BL) and brachioplasty (arm lift.) It's a lot to contend with at once, I know.

Mom still works and is wondering about the course of my recovery-- and how long I will be hogging up her guest room , I imagine. She will take off as much time as I need, but I really don't know how to anticipate what I would need-- dad's retired and will be around anyway (he's just not super medically helpful and mom is.)

How long do you thin****il I can probably return home and finish healing alone, if all goes well? Can you give me a timetable of your healing, if you too had multiple/sizable procedures? How many days might I need someone with me 24-7?

I had a BL, LBL, UBL (Back flanks removed-cut from under the breast all around the back), TL with Lipo.  It was a 12 hour procedure.   I was in the hospital for 2 days and then stayed with my mom with her home 24/7 for 3 days and then she went back to work.  So for a total of 5 days I had 24/7 care but could still move ok on my own.    I had very minimal pain.

However, when I had my brachioplasty a few months before my total body lift the hardest thing was losing the range of motion in my arms.   I needed help for some time reaching things and that was by far harder than any of the other procedures.   While you can put things lower so you can reach them.  It took months before I got my range of motion back.

WOW, a 12 hour procedure!  Did I understand correct, you had the LBL, UBL, BL and Thigh lift with lipo all at the same time???  You are brave

you will be having yours a few days before me.  Mine is booked for june 29th.  I am having a TT (anchor) and breast lift.  I will be in the hospital one day and the doctor said be able to take care of myself the following day and back at work within two weeks.  I am a secretary.

Have you had your pre op yet?  Are you nervous?

I had a lot done at once too. I had a BL with tissue put in from my body, UBL, LBL, brachioplasty, abdominoplasty and upper thigh lift at once. I had to have the abdominoplasty again in July because they didn't seem to remove much skin from it. My surgery was between 11 and 12 hours as well. I was in the hospital for 5 days. I went home to live with my parents for 2 weeks. Then I returned to my condo (by myself). I really needed the 2 weeks of being cared for. Combined with the hospital stay, it was almost 3 weeks of care.

If your mother is willing to take the time off, I would have her take at least 2 weeks if she can. It is better to be safe than sorry. Getting up from a horizontal position was the hardest thing for me. I needed help for a while.

Good luck!

I had an extended TT and BL on Feb 18 (a Wednesday). Stayed overnight one night at the surgery center. My husband took 3 days off work to stay at home with me and went back to work the following Monday. I was up and about pretty well by Saturday. My husband took care of the house and meals and I could take care of myself.

The next week I was on good drugs - Percocet - and actually worked sometime from home. I think I was high. Went on to extra strength Tylenol the next week and didn't have the energy to work but was able to take care of myself and make small meals etc. I went back to work (desk job) the next week.

I was tired for a good six weeks. Then things gradually got better.

I just had a brachioplasty that extended all the way through my armpits and included some revision to the "side boobs". Not as good drugs this time and much more discomfort. Limited range of motion and just incovenient. I am 2 weeks out now and still have lots of swelling.

I used my arms to get up and down after my TT and use my stomach muscles to sit up now without my arms. I think that having both together will be the hardest to cope with. I think you may need help for at least a week just getting in and out of bed.

Good luck with your procedures. The results are worth the discomfort.

I had a Breast Reduction/Lift which was a piece of cake for me....2 or 3 days and after that I felt really great.  BUT after my Brachioplasty I would say it was at least 7 days before I could cook and a full 2 weeks before I was somewhat comfortable.  Much of the swelling starting going down around the 2 week mark...before that I was still all wrapped in bandages.
It too****il week 6 that I had my full reach bac****il then I could not get things from the top shelf in the cabinet and lifting a gallon of milk was ify.  Since 6 weeks I feel much better.  Weeks 2-4 when all the nerves were starting to re-connect were tough because I kept getting SHARP ZINGING PAINS shooting throughout the arms and even into my back.

I'm at 9 weeks now and I am starting to get some feeling back in my armpits.  Man the armpits are the worst part!!!!!!

Well hope that helps....

Good luck!

I had a TT w/muscle repair & lipo and a baseball size umbilical hernia repair done and from the muscle work I had a hard time getting up & down for a couple of weeks. My DH was there 24/7 & I sure was glad. I'll also tell you like I tell everyone else, make sure to take stool softeners, warm prune juice, suppositories and anything else to keep from getting constipated, that was a huge problem for me!!  Good Luck!!

It is too bad your home isn't closer to me Shari.  After you go home if you were close I'd help you out for real.  I am home during the week.  I am sure it will all work itself out and u will go home when you are ready.  Wow your date is fast approaching, how exciting!!! You will do great, I have no doubts!

I had the FL & AL on May 22nd and the TT & BL last Tuesday June 2nd and I think I'm doing pretty darn good.

FL & AL wasn't bad at  all. Hardest part for you is going to be getting up & down without the full use of your tummy muscles or arm muscles. But I'll bet within a week or two,(at the most) you should be doing pretty good.

You're one tough determined woman and I have no doubt you'll do fine!!!!
