Belly button death?

How do you know if your skin has turned necrotic? I have a patch of skin on/in my new bellybutton, about the size of my thumb nail that is grey/black. It is not stinky and it doesn't really hurt and I'm not running a fever. I called the surgeon before the weekend, but they never got back to me. I will follow up in the morning. I'm just curious if anyone else has had this experience with some skin turning black/grey?

Thanks!

I will have my sister take a pic of it tomorrow evening. I've tried and because it's tucked into the fold of the belly button, I can't get a good angle on it.   It could actually be more of a scab than anything else. I am a bit hyper-vigilant because of my history of complications - as long as it's not draining copious and stinky stuff and I've no fever, I think I'll be good to go until I see my surgeon on Wed.

I do figure if it was urgent, that the nurse would have called back last week.

Thanks!

sounds like the same thing I have.  My doc touched it lightly and since it blanched, said it was live tissue.
