Pain

Hey guys!  Ok - so far, so good, I guess...... I DO have a question tho.......

Did anyone experience a serious pain in their tummy soon after their op (DUH, huh, it just to all cut and stitched up, right?)

I am having to stay right on schedule with my meds otherwise I am praying to the LORD JESUS to hurry up and make the vicodin kick in - I'm going to see if it gets better over the weekend - I am thinking because of me being uncomfortable sleeping the recliner, I might have a problem there.

I am finally comfortable enough to sit in my own bed!  WHOOOHOOO!!!  I am not laying all the way down, but sitting with my legs all the way out in front of me and surrounded by pillows - GOD it is so comfy!!!!!!  So that has me more relaxed - I'm thinking that will help.

Any specifics on pain would be helpful for me right now - I can SURELY tell that THIS time more **** got done than last - last time wasn't NOTHING compared to THIS!!!!  good GOSH almighty!!!! lol

Mack Mama,
I have not had my plastics yet ( hopefullly LBL/TT later this summer or early fall), so cannot give advice from experience. After GBS I did take benadryl at night with my pain medicine, I seemed to be able to sleep a little longer and not wake up in as much pain.  I also used extra strength tylenol imbetween my liquid percocet; you have to be careful about the amount of tylenol in a 24 hour period. I have also read other people used ibuprofen with an anti ulcer medication for pain control; I would only do so if my GB surgeon agreed. I am going to ask about it prior to my plastics as i had poor pain control with my GBS. Would ice packs help maybe? I hope it gets better for you! I enjoy your posts; you are funny!

I agree with the above poster.

Take 2 benadryl before bed with your pain med... snooooozy girl you will be and comfy!

Also if you are on vicodin it has 500mg of tylenol per tablet.  If you take two then only take it alone every 6 hours so you do not exceed 4,000mg of tylenol in 24 hours.. it is toxic to your liver beyond that.

If you are on one tablet then you can take 1 extra strength tylenol with it but still must take every 6 hours and not every 4 hours.  If you just take one and like it every 4 hours then stick to just ONE vicodin and NO tylenol and take very 4 hours.

Hope that makes sense.  Tylenol at night was a god send for me.. 50mg.. two capsules.. night night! lol..

Good luck and keep us posted.
Hugs, Melissa

It's the muscle work. I did OK on just the Vicodin. It was really pretty hard the first week to get comfortable anywhere. I think that's why I was so tired, I really couldn't sleep. It does get better, I promise!! Hang in there and don't forget to walk. Make sure you are taking stool softeners, prunes and flax seed. With Vicodin, your body may shut down, I know mine did. Good luck!!

Thanks for that tip - I am taking a laxative - I keep getting gas that won't 'come out' - TMI..... and I have had a BM since surgery so I am starting to worry.

I will keep making sure I stay mindful of my medicine schedule - I do not like pain at ALL!!!

I am still on vicodin mainly at night, but when I first came home I was on percoset.  Loves it!!  Tylenol PM might help you too, but do not hesitate to call your PS.  I know mine was all over making sure my pain was really well controlled.

I was taking the max doses allowed and didn't fall behind my schedule otherwise I really felt it.  It took me a while to sleep in my bed, too painful, but once I was back in my bed, I did seem to sleep better.

thinking about you!
