I did three rounds of plastics in six months and I worried about this issue.   I still have about 6 vicodin left and I took one last night (I had my scars all lasered about two weeks ago and everything hurt for some reason - I don't take pain meds for muscle pain - post workout etc. so I don't like taking them....I figure once they're gone that's it.........I stopped taking them after the first two procedures too soon and suffered and my plastic surgeon gave me hell for it..........if you have a responsive doc/followup team and voice your concerns - they will help you decide........they're used to it.   Susan

Most people are not going to become addicted to the pain pills if they are taking them as prescribed for the short time that most of us take them.  Even when there is a protracted recovery there are measures the doc can take to make sure that you do not become addicted in the sense of drug crazed lunatic.  Of course there are those individuals that may be predisposed to addictive behavior your doc should recognize this type of behavior and either start weaning you off the medications or refer you to a pain specialist.
