post op TT exercise
I am 9 weeks post TT and started exercising at 7 weeks. I started very gradual just w/ 10-15 minutes of cardio and a little stretching. I continued to up my time a little and my intensity of walking and stretching until I am up to 30 minutes now and just completed my first full mat Pilates session (45 minutes) yesterday. I feel wonderful for doing so but I have been swelling like crazy by the end of the day. I am not at swollen as I was 3 weeks ago but not by much. I think I started swelling almost instantly after doing the Pilates but I feel so much better for it I just can not stop working out!! What do I do??
I am concerned about keep up and improving my health and NEED to work out if even just for my mental wellbeing. Am I going too fast? Will the swelling just take care of itself over time?
One other question-does anyone do Pilates everyday? I LOVE it and just got introduced before PS and it really helps my back pain (as did the PS) as well as my mental wellbeing. I know not to do the same exact routine two days in a row but is it ok to do maybe a shorter routine followed by a longer one the next day?? Please help

Hi Kristie!
I am from Belton, MO originally and visit my folks a lot there! Would be fun to get together with u sometimes if I am ever back home!!
Anyways, I am an avid exerciser myself but new to the whole PS world as I just had my first procedure a week ago (LBL). However Susan on here is a pro with working out and exericse and I do believe she may be into pilates (I think) she is in Georgia right now visiting her beloved but when she returns maybe she can answer your ? better if nobody else does.
I have read ppl swell after activity for months.. so I don't think it is uncommon and I wouldn't stop doing it unless your surgeon thinks its concerning. I would call and ask them also for their opinions... without a doubt.
Hugs and good luck!!!

Hi Kristie,
I am almost 4 months post TT with BL/BA (Had a revision on my left breast yesterday so this answer really applies to before yesterday am!). I got released for exercise at 6 weeks with no restrictions and thought WOO HOO I'm going back. I was an avid spinner and lifter prior to surgery and couldn't wait to hit the gym again.... well, what do they say about good intentions? I was having a HORRIBLE time with swelling. Every time I did any cardio but especially spinning it was awful. I'd blow up like a little blow fish and there was a little pain from the skin stretching.
I would end up taking 3-4 days between workouts. I did ask Susan on here about it and she was great. Basically all the advice I got was to take it at my own pace and everyone heals differently. So now I'm to the point where I'm walking when it's not raining and have basically decided that I'm not going to do my spinning/ellipital/treadmill for another couple of weeks and see if that helps.
Prior to my revision yesterday my abs were feeling good having not really stressed them for a while so that's my plan. Of course now I'm back on a little restriction until my boob heals, but that's okay as long as I can walk.
Good luck,
Franci

I'm almost 12 wks. post-op & was cleared for "everything" at wk. 8. I recently went to my Primary & asked her about all the swelling which I still have in the lower abdomen & drives me crazy. She explained that while I may be healed on the outside, the inside takes much longer. With the large intestine there, there is always stress on that area & only time will allow it to fully heal.
So, I do what I can & take it easy when the swelling gets too bad. What my body needs is some exercise & gentleness so that it can repair itself. I'm going to my chiropractor this week to see if some adjustments can help me with all the stiffness caused by long non-movement. If it ain't one thing, it's another!
So easy does it.
