Question regarding weight loss AFTER LBL

Hi!
For all of you who have had the LBL did you lose weight after your LBL?
I've seen some posting and seems like people actually gain weight after it.  If the Dr removes 10 lbs of skin/tissue, you would think there would be at least a few lbs lost......

Maybe it just means you don't see the weight loss for a couple weeks until some swelling goes down...I'm not sure.

Anyhow, I'm just curious so if you've had the LBL surgery already and don't mind sharing I'd love to know how many lbs the Surgeon removed and how many lbs you lost after the procedure.

THANKS for sharing and have a great day!!

Hi Ruth,

I had LBL on Jan 29th.  The doc took about 8lbs off me during surgery.  If I remember the morning of surgery I was 145lbs.  I did come home a bit heavier after surgery because of the fluids.  About 2 weeks after surgery I was done to approx. 137ish.  I am now 3 months out and weigh about 134.  I had swelling but was still able to fit into my pre-surgery jeans.  Just before surgery I was wearing a size 8/10 jeans, I am now wearing 4/6's.

Hope this helps.  Good luck to you.

Sandy

When I first got home from my LBL I had gained about 5 pounds even though he removed 11 pounds.  Now I am down about 19 pounds and I am 9 weeks out.

The swelling has a mind of its own, thats for sure!!

My surgeon took 8 lbs. of skin off me between my tummy tuck and arm lift.  I went up about 5 lbs. due to swelling for a couple of weeks then went back down to the weight I was at before.  I have not dropped below that weight.  That was 4 years ago and I am still at that weight which is fine with me.  I was at that weight for 1 year before having my PS so my body likes it there.

That is a good question and I am glad you asked it!!

I was 144 preop, he removed 7 lbs of fat/skin with my LBL and came home 146.5.  Today after ahem 2 very large poos.. I am 142ish.  But I can tell you without a doubt I am SWOLLEN.  So it will be interesting to see where I land.  Looks like 130's for sure.. YAY, I am loving that!

I had been stalled for 4 months, literally, between 153-157. NOTHING I did changed it, and when I finally saw Dr. Aboolian for the 3rd "consult" (right before my surgery), he said "You're out of fat".

I was having a LBL and Lipo of Flanks, Back, Thighs, Arms, and...I forgot where else, LOL! Anyway, lots of lipo. Maybe upper tummy? I had a different "look" in terms of pannus and such than most people. It sort of looked like I had a hernia.

It's weird when a doctor says that. See, I'd asked "So, how much of skin and fat (I had lipo while I was under, why not?!) am I gonna lose?!"

I was all excited, I'd read how some people lost SO much skin/fat.

"Maybe 3 lbs of skin. Fat, maybe 5". I had a total of 4 lbs of skin taken off of me and he lipo-ed out 5 lbs of fat.

When I came home, I couldn't weigh myself. I was downstairs, the scale was upstairs, and I couldn't walk up stairs, so no scale.

Two weeks later, when I was "cleared", I waltzed up and saw 147. How COOL is that? Now, I'm still swollen, on my 7th week post-op, and depending on the time of day I weigh myself, ya never know. This morning, prior to peeing, I clocked in at 142.5. I might actually SEE the 130's!!

Now, I'm still swollen. I will remain swollen, in one way or another, for another several months. They tell you not to go 'SHOPPING!" until at least 6 months after, so it's sort of like being back in the quick weight loss stage, I guess, but with only 1-2 sizes and not 10.

The day before surgery, I was in my size 6 (read: 8) Lucky Jeans. 5 weeks post-op, I couldn't even get them around my thighs, let alone button them. Even if you look real hot, the swelling is there, it's very interesting.

So for the interrim ****il my perfect scars (OMG, awesome, I might actually post pictures!) are healed enough that I can wear pants comfortably (probably another month?), I now have 3 skirts. I bought 2 more from Target. All size small. So weird. But they fit, and perfectly over my Spanx AND the compression garment/binder that I wear as well.

So yeah, that weight loss? It might happen ASAP, it might happen 4 weeks later. But you'll look 20 lbs lighter anyway, even when you CAN'T button your pre-op jeans.
