Hello just had a few questions on getting a arm lift. I want to start geting quotes and seeing a few docs. Just wanted to know how long I can expect to not use my arms after surgery??? Any ballpark prices (just to have a idea). I guess i just need to know if i should wait until fall or if  i should have done now??/  I really like gardening  so hoping I will only be out of commission for a few weeks. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks, DeAnn

I personally havent had one but I did have BA last year and if you enjoy gardening then I would wait until fall but thats my opinion.  Good luck

I could use my arms right away.  I mean I did not have to have someone feed me or help me in the bathroom that sort of thing.  I was pretty much doing whatever I needed to do.  But it was a  while before I would do anything strenuous or doing any lifting or really reaching.

My brachioplasty was my toughest surgery.  I think I used my arms too soon and ended up with a wound separation on my upper right arm.  I know my doctor said six weeks.  I wouldn't tempt fate if you can wait until the fall, I'd do it just be on the safe side.

I just had my arms done 1 month ago.
You "use" them right away to do things like feed yourself, comb your hair, get dressed, BUT you are limited.  I still cannot fully stretch either arm.  I was told NOT to do any lifting until week 6.  I too LOVE gardening......I purposely had my surgery done in March so hopefully come May I can play in the yard a little.  I'm in the process of buying a new house and can't wait to get my hands in the ground and start planting!

So far like Big City Girl said my arm surgery has been much harder on me than my Breast Reduction/Breast lift.

Good luck to you when you have yours done.

i just had mine done the 14th and now i wish i had waited till fall, since i love being in the yard and do live on a farm, i have trouble just reaching to pick some thing up off the floor and it does affect the nerves in your arms.

I had mine done 2 1/2 weeks ago.  Like everyone has said, I was able to use my arms right away, but with limitations.   My husband had to help me wash my hair the first week.  I could feed myself, but I needed help getting clothes on, mostly because of the drains.  I still can't do heavy lifting or stretching, so sometimes it is challenging if you need to pick something up off the floor or need something up high in a cabinet.  I am suffering from alot of swelling issues, so I am still uncomfortable doing much of anything when I feel so puffy.  I mean, it feels like the skin on my arms are stretching and the incision line is going to split open, and that's not to mention the numbness I feel in the arms.  The doctor says that is all perfectly normal signs of healing, but at 2 1/2 weeks, I just sat outside for 10 minutes in the sun, and my arms swelled up even more than normal, and the sun beating down on my incision line did not feel good at all.
So, as the other posters have said, I too feel as if this surgery was more involved than what I had originally thought.  On the other hand, some people get thru it with little or no problems at all.  As far as cost, I paid $3500.00 total, and that included the surgical center, doctors fee, and anestesiologist.  Good luck to you.

Thank you all for the great info. I think since it is almost summer and I enjoy working outside, i will wait until fall. Seeing that I  also like bike riding and swimming these bat wings will have to wait another summer before the tank tops go on. LOL thanks again all your replies mean't a lot . DeAnn

I did as little as possible with my arms for 2 weeks (although I was able, with some discomfort and special maneuvering, to wash my hair, shower, etc.) because they hurt like hell, especially the armpits!  Some people don't find that the arms are quite as painful as I did, but even once the pain had lessened, the swelling persisted for quite a few weeks and the swelling and the compression wraps made it hard (painful) to do many things.  If you have your armpits cut, stretching your arms while gardening might be problematic (I had mine done at the end of September last year and never did get out to clean up the leaves form the iris, hosta, etc. because my arms hurt to stretch... I just left it all for the spring (and prayed ro no iris borers!)
