Got my new date

The soonest they can do my PS is April 21st, and that was a tentative.  Should know by the end of the week.  Otherwise it will have to be in May.  I have been crying all day off and on.  I guess the anticipation and adrenaline was so high that I just crashed when my surgery was cancelled.  I got out today with the family and went to see a movie just to focus on something else but no luck.  I came out just as depressed as I went in.  Well getting a phonecall from the Dr in the middle of the movie didn't help.  Sorry to be such a downer, but I'm really surprised at my reaction to all this.  Now I have to go back to work and face all the questions.  So now I'm off to putting up all my pillows, blankets, walker, toilet seat riser, etc., etc.   It's funny but I had even put the toilet seat riser on the toilet before I left to the hospital so I would be ready to "go" when I got back!  Oh well.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

I will definitely take care of paying the hospital fees WAY before my surgery date.  Wonder if I can get the blood I donated back???

I know it takes at least six weeks before you can donate blood again.  Are you concerned about bleeding from your surgery?  This has never come up in all my three rounds of plastics.  Just wondering why you were asked to bank blood?

I had to bank two units of blood for my LBL and I was able to do so a week apart.........I've never heard a requirement for waiting six weeks - that may be for blood donation as a donar for general purposes - but when it's for your own procedure the rules may be different.  The only issues were my hematocrit had to be back in the normal range - and my BP had to be within normal limits......on my second unit I was hypotensive - so I went and got a cup of coffee and I starting to talk about my exhusband with the phlebotomist - who I had gotten to know by that time - and that conversation made my blood pressure spike enough to get in under the wire! LOL.........I think the OP will be fine......the delay must have been heartbreaking - I thought about you all day.      Susan

I'm really surprised to hear about two units of blood donation in one week. .  I've never donated for myself just for others - and the rule is six weeks!  I've done it enough to know!

Mainly the concern is because I get iron infusions on a regular basis to keep my iron levels up. I haven't been able to tolerate iron pills since I had my WLS.  My levels dropped very low last year and it has taken some work to get them up to normal. I have had weekly infusions for a month in order to prepare for my surgery.  Of course when I donated a week or so ago, my levels dropped more.  Both my hematologist and the surgeon just want to be sure my levels don't get too low and if they do, at least they'll have the blood for the transfusion.  If there is a six week waiting period in between, then I may not be able to donate again in time for surgery.

Ya know sometimes fate works in mysterious ways and maybe you just were'nt meant to have surgery today for some unknown reason.  I'm glad you already have an idea when you can get back in.  If you feel obligated to explain things to your coworkers maybe you can just tell them there was a scheduling glitch or the Dr. had an unforseen emergency & leave it at that.

So many people have told me that today.  Even family and friends.  Now I'm gonna be walking around waiting for a revelation of some sort!  But you're right, I guess it just wasn't supposed to happen today.  :(

Well my heart was with you all day and I could imagine the disappointment this morning.  We have such anticapation to have this over.  We want the end of the tunnel to be there.  This is our final step.    That would really frustrate me that I would have to wait that long to have the surgery again.  I, also, believe everything happens for a reason.  Hang in there and good luck!!

Thanks Kelly.  It was a sad day.  I have been researching this for a couple of years and have spent so much time researching and consulting with doctors and I just couldn't believe the day was finally here.  Almost like Christmas morning when I was a kid...or Christmas morning with no presents under the tree!

Dear Melissa, yes, tomorrow will be a better day.

I had my RNY cancelled the day of surgery after I had been at the hospital in the morning got my IV and was waiting and waiting, no word from anyone and after many hours around five pm decided to go home as no one was giving me info on the delay and by that time the surgeon had been in surgery all day and I did not want a tired surgeon operating on me since it was not an emergency. Ended up changing hospitals and doctors since the Surgeon or his office never contacted me about what happened and I felt they did not care  about me and had my surgery several months later with a new surgeon  and all went well.

So I too, believe things happen for a reason.

I would ask about getting your blood back since it is only good for a certain period of time.

Wishing you all the best.
