is it possible to put on the brachioplasty compression vest without help?
I get to shower tomorrow (Yeah!!!!!! I stink!!!!!!).......but I'm wondering how on earth I get the compression bolero/vest on myself - the nurse who put it on me yesterday after drains were pulled had to work pretty hard to get it up my arms and in place (and I've swelled a bit in it - since the drains are gone......I have a nice male neighbor who will help if need be......(I told him no nudity will be involved), but it will be annoying to have to have him dress me daily! The other option is to shower at the gym and have my trainer get me into it (also male)......but that would probably not be ideal either. The compression garment for the LBL was something I handled myself without trouble. I've also read people refer to an underarmour garment they transitioned to and I've not seen anything that looks like it provides that kind of compression........would love to learn more......Susan

I didn't have a compression garment with my Brachioplasty. I had compression "sleeves" - like tube socks without the feet. I can only offer this advice - be very, very careful about straining - wound separations are very common with this surgery and I had one about 10 days postop while overextending my right arm.

Thanks for the reply - I've read your posts carefully and am fully aware of the risk of wound separation - I'm wearing this garment that's basically a very tight bolero - it is very uncomfortable....and it does not permit very much extension at all....which is why I think it will be good for me to stick it out rather than trying ace bandages etc......I know right now it's still painful enough that I remember I had surgery - but when I feel better it will be easier to forget. That's why it's so valuable to have feedback from other folks - so I appreciate it much! Susan

I had to have help the first 4-5 days (hubby) then, VERY carefully.
I did use cut mini pads under the arms, as it was rubbing.
If you pull up using the elbow area, it helps get it up on your arm better. I felt like a stuffed sausage!
Then it would creap up my torso. So pulling it down hurt like hell.
After the first 2wks, my PS let me wear the Under Armor compression shirt. It was tight, but much eaiser to get on.
Good luck,
Montie

The only compression thing I've seen for under armour is an over the head kind of shirt - is that what you used?!?! I'm not sure what to order. Thanks........and hte idea of mini pads is a good one...my drain holes are very sore right now......Susan

After the wraps was removed and I got into the shower on day three, my physician suggested the compression garment (underarmour). I had to get 2 sizes larger than normal since I was swollen so much. BUT it felt so good to have the shirt on holding everything tight. Wore it until MD said no more. You can also get something like it at JC Penny.
