Topic: RE: HOW LONG DOES A DOG STAY IN HEAT???
Yes, it is normal for the vagina and breasts to swell. She will stay in heat about three weeks. At first, they kind of lick themselves then they start bleeding. They will usually accept a male dog between the ninth and twelve day. This is when you want to breed them (if you do). After that the bleeding slows down then they stop. Whole process takes about two and a half to three weeks. You can buy little panties to put on your girl to keep blood from getting everywhere but they do not stop a male dog from getting to her. What kind of dog do you have? Some people use preemie diapers from walmart with a onsie over them for extra protection. If you do not plan to breed her, have her spayed. Too many accidents happen and it doesn't take a minute. Hope this helps/

2 weeks, the first week she bleeds, the 2nd she will be ready to go if you know what I mean. Your Pug Sasha gets all bothered that SHE humps our female and gets upset that there is nothing going happening! Her Vagina will swell, breast might as well, when she is ready to mate she will tilt upwards (her vagina will) ours would when you would tickle the base of her tail. Anyways, I hope that this was educational for you. We are going to be fixing our little one (not really little, she is 4) The longer you wait to fix the more prone to cancer and unwanted pregnancy, also our vet charges more for the spay if the dog is older then 1 year old.

It usally is one week coming in heat two weeks in heat and one week going out of heat. I raise chihuahuas, and my females like to come in heat all at the same time. I only have one little male is he is one happy fella for about six weeks. He chased the girls so much he get real skinny but he has a smile on his face.

It seems that my dog has been in heat a long time. I have been very careful with her. I know that she hasn't been out so there is no way she is pregnant. I have never had a female dog so someone educate me please, is it normal for her vagina to swell up and her breast too? Thanks. Pam
Topic: RE: Hamster? Rat? Gerbil? Mouse?
Hi Marcie,
I would get a rat. They are so intelligent and very clean creatures. I got mine over two years ago, he was someone else's reject. They do make very good pets and are very intelligent. You cannot combine two different species together...it doesn't work! Just try to find out all you can about their care. Cage needs to be cleaned every 3 or 4 days or they will get sick from the ammonia in the litter. Sadly, I had to put our Mr. Whiskers to sleep this morning. He had cancer but I couldn't let him suffer. He was a male albino rat, white with pink nose and pink ears. He was very cute and liked to tuck himself in his little house in his cage. I will miss him very much. Hope this helps with your decision. Also, get two as they are very social and can get lonely and depressed by themselves.

Topic: RE: Major cat urine problem....HELP!
Thanks for your reply!
I just spent $1200 at the vet this week (check-up/shots and senior blood screens for all 4). I am waiting to hear back on 2 cats as to their health. So far, the vet thinks it's behavioural.
I may put one cat on a new med used for anxiety. She is the only girl and gets stalked almost daily.
I am looking into setting up a camera (ours shuts off after a few seconds of letting go of the 'record' button).
I am also going to separate them and see what happens. I know that my girl was less stressed when 2 cats were at the vet all day.
I will get to the bottom of this.
Thanks for your support.
Hopefully I won't have to give anyone away....

1. You HAVE to keep the boxes clean! One more box than the total # cats in the house! No less than once a day cleaning! Sucks, but has to be done.
2. If the previous owners, any of them!, had a cat(s) that peed yours would be more likely to try to mark their territory.
3. If any aren't spayed/neutered - that can cause the need to mark.
4. Separate the cats, one per room, and within a few days you'll know who's missing the target!
5. One or more could just be upset about the move.
6. Someone may have a urinary infection - vet visit for all!
7. It isn't their fault...if you have nice things that could get wrecked, limit the cats access until the mystery is solved.
By the way, borrowing video cameras from friends and setting them up in the usual rooms wouldn't be a bad idea!
Topic: RE: Iguana Needs Home
Im not suprised that your male iguanas are not getting along. It is like having two bulls in heat in the same pen. Bad mojo very bad. You do need to get rid of him right away because he will soon not hesitate to attack anything femals in heat or the other male. I am assuming that the non agressor is younger. If you want to know ALOT about your iguanas go to google and type in melissa kaplan iguanas. she is the absolute expert on iguanas.
Where are you? I do not have a large enough home but I can help you find him a place with one of my rescue partners.
