Found Vernon on the Freeway
My partner was driving home from Glendora in California, when she saw this little bit of a rat? or dog? running up and down the freeway embankment during rush hour traffic. She got off the next offramp, circled back, and went on the freeway, pulling up alongside of the little white animal. She looked for traffic; there was a break in the action on the slow lane, so she pulled over to the edge of the freeway and threw open the door, calling to the white fur ball, saying "Come here little baby!" She knew she had just a minute for the break in trafffic, and either the dog would get in the car, or face demise on the freeway. The dog, a chihauhau, jumped in and sat next to her. SHe drove off with our new pet. He had a big head and a skinny little body of 6.5 lbs. We called him Vernon as she found him on Vernon off ramp. He gets a long well with our 2 mini wiennies and our adopted cat Kobe. He has made our family complete!
Not to be negative, because this is a nice story...but I hope you tried to find out if Vernon's owners were searching for him. As someone who lost a dog while we were visiting in another state, I know that not all dogs who are out on the highways are abandoned.
We spent thousands of dollars searching for our dog and never found her. The vets and animal control people figured that someone found her and just kept her without bothering to check to see if someone was missing her. It is the heartbreak of our lives to never know what happened to her.
