I dont know what to do?

My husband and I have 2 great sons, ones 6 and the others going on 3. I desperatly want to have the surgery but i am a little nervouse to get pregnant after wards as far as regaining, eating and vitamin problems and my youngest one will be around 5 or older before we could even start planning (which seems like a huge age difference). We know we want one more, but I need some advice on whether or not we should give it a go before the surgery or waiting til afterwards. PLease help, any ideas, advice, or anything would help. I know I have to decide but, I would like some advice. thanks.

I know that you are not supposed to get pregnant for at least 18 months after surgery. The type of surgery may make a difference, too, as surgeries with a malabsorption component may make it harder to maintain healthy vitamin/mineral levels (I've heard this about folic acid in particular). Will your weight make pregnancy particularly dangerous? If not, I'd have the baby, then the surgery.

Jessica- I just had my first baby in October- 9 mos post surgery. Let me tell you it was TOUGH that soon out of surgery. I have no idea how some people who got pregnant sooner out of surgery handled it. Food was a big issue, dumping is not fun, especially during pregnancy. Getting in the vitamins was a big issue- I was taking tons! Mentally, the weight gain during pregnancy was a huge issue to get over. I luckly gained only 20 lbs and took off 30 since the baby has been born. Doctors suggest you wait 12-18 mos post op before you TTC. If that's something you and your husband want to do (wait that long) I'd say have the surgery first. If you don't want to wait at least a year, try for #3 first. If I had to do it again, I'd definately wait the 18 months. I was still in what I'd consider the learning part of post op eating at 9 mos post op. Best of luck to you Janine
