Any parents with Children ADHD/ODD....HELP
Melissa,
It is VERY possible! My 10 year old son suffers from ADHD w/ ODD and until we found the proper meds and dosage it was pure HELL!! I understand your frustration 100%! Your father doesn't live with this on a daily bases so he cannot possibly judge what's going on w/ your daugther. My father was the same way, telling me "that kid doesn't need medication, it's just a cop out!" Well here we are 1 1/2 years on Strattera and doing wonderful! We've tried Adderall and Wellbutrin (to control his outbursts). He no longer needs the antidepressive, thank God because I hated giving that to him.
Whatever you do don't give up! Meet w/ her dr and bring up what is going on. Catch this now and things will be better for you and her in the future.
Good luck and you can email me directly if you'd like!

well my son just turned 7 this week and i have been through hell and back with him,its partly my fault i always gave in to him when he was 4 and 5 and he remembers how he got away with everything..so now its rough getting him into a routine and special rewarding i am doing all the research on it as i can..right now hes only here part time so that dont help much ,we have good days and bad days
he was diagnosed at 3 1/2 started on meds..finally when we started him on concerta that was the miracle drug for him that worked..now this doc he sees now i cant stand,he claims its bi-polar cause his dad has it my son shows no signs of depression is always happy just always on the go and very hyper..although he does have some occasional mood swings like he gets really emmotional at times when you tell him no,this child just hates to listen but in time i should have him back on track one can hope right.....in 3 weeks he will be seeing a new doc i cant wait..i want him back on concerta or something...i need to find my patience with him and ways to work with him to make him behave better and do what he is told..
for example you tell him to clean his room or do something his excuse is my legs are tired
he loves to lie
he can get punished for doing something wrong he will tell me and my b/f he hates us lol
basically it has to be his way or no way..i hate given in but i just lost my patience with him...i want my good kid back somehow

I am not a doc but my daughter has ADHD/ADD and bilpolar (sever disrupive behaviour disorder is what those 3 things called and ODD.
kaitlynns behavioural specialist says 60 -70% of childen with ADD or ADHD have ODD, it is a combination of those, if your ped didn't tell u she didn't have it then more then likely she does.. call your doc and make an appointment and ask him... tell him u have been reading up on it and she has 8 out of the 9 characteristics. best of luck
My 9 year old daughter has ADD and various other learning disorders (She's only now learning to read) She's a very bright girl - but very stubborn. She can be seomthing of a Drama queen. I often don';t know what will cause her to over-react. I pulled her off meds when they made her thinking slow and her speech slurred. The docs have tried verious things.. but I simply try to keep her active and help her find new ways of coping with her personal problems.
In my experience - sometimes the meds work sometimes they make things MUCH worse. Check with your child and find out what works for them. Don't allow a school to tell you your kids NEEDS meds. That's your choice. Good luck. ADHD kids can be difficult but are usually amazingly bright and turn out amazing us in the end.
