There are several options that might suit you needs. One is to do as much preclinical work (sciences and such) online or via mail. that could take as much as 2 years if your looking into a BSN. Remember that you might be able to use some of your credits from your previous degree. As for the clinical part, that you will need childcare for. Some hospitals have daycare on site, if you are working there they may allow you to use it. I hope this was of some help. Try posting this question on the Nursing Messageboard. You might get more and/or better answers. Good Luck, Robin, RN

Hi there, Been there done that but that was 15 years ago and was a Practical Nursing Program. It was hard but well worth it! I would suggest to check with local hospitals for grants so you don't have to work while going to school. Also check with the nursing schools to see what grants/loans that you can get. There are some loans that are forgivable if you work in the area that they specify. Scholarships.com is a good source of info too. Good luck! Jen

I'm not sure where in Philadelphia you are but how about the community college? I know Bucks County Community College offers a nursing program and I think they used to have childcare onsite run by the early childhood education majors. I'm not sure if they still do but other community colleges may offer the same. Online courses are offered by nearly every college but your clinical will present an issue when the time comes. How old are your children? By the time you get ready to do clinical hours, perhaps they'll be ready for full day school? Most schools offer before and after school care and it is really only temporary until you can achieve your next big goal! You are certainly not the first woman with children pursuing a second career so call your local schools and see what advice they have to offfer. Good luck to you! JP

Well...I don't have much advice now...just wanted to wish you luck in getting your RN. I'm 14w pregnant now and finishing up my last prerequisite class and should be entering the RN program next spring. At that time my baby will be 5 months old...it will be rough and tough...but sooooo worth it. Anyway...GOOD LUCK! Kristy EDD 8/6/06 14w5d
