We want to get pregnant
I'm a little over a year post-op and am doing pretty well. I've lost a total of around 115 pounds (the number fluctuates by a few pounds). I now want to try to get pregnant. My husband and I suffered at least one miscarriage a few years ago, and haven't tried again as we were both going to have the bypass. Is there anyone out there who has had a successful pregnancy who can give me/us some advice?
Thanks!

I had DS surgery 3 years ago, and have tried for a few months to get pregnant, to be told by my OB/GYN that I was not ovulating. Seemed odd to me, as after DS you are suppose to be very fertile. So he put me on a drug called Clomid. Well the first dose was only 50mg, and did nothing. Next month he gave me 100mg.. still nothing. 3rd month 150mg and BINGO! I am now a little over 6 months pregnant. Happy to be pregnant for the first time ever.
However, I must warn you... there are some very real emotional issues your head will play with you as you are gaining the weight again. I had a real hard time with this during the first few months. As the numbers on the scale went up and up my mood went down the tubes. I have gained more than 25 lbs already... and not happy about that. But the baby is healthy and thats what matters right now.
Anyhow, if you want to chat about this, email me at: [email protected]

3/5/02 starting weight 442lbs
3/5/05 lost almost 300 lbs.
I just had surgery 03/28/05 so obviously haven't had the post-op pregnancy, but have talked to both my GYN and my surgeon they both agree that I should wait 12 to 18 months or until weight loss levels off.
After that, they both say that if anything, pregnancy will be easier and healthier for me and the baby. So my opinion is "Go For It." But it is also a good idea to talk to the GYN and/or surgeon, and get there opinions.
Good luck,
Billie
