Hi, I was wondering if any of you post op's have gotten pregnant before they reach their ideal goal weight? Also how much weight have you gained during the pregnancy? Also was it easy to lose it afterwards. I am wondering because I am 2 weeks late (going to the doctor tomorrow). I am scared and not knowing what to do. I'm 22 and I am just confused about the whole thing....It is really scary to me I've never been pregnant before plus with the waiting 18 months I just feel like I'm a total failure Any advice would be very helpful. Thank you, Melissa 410/220/goal 170ish

Hi Melissa, Here's hope for you...I just gave birth 3 months ago to a beautiful, healthy baby girl. I learned I was pregnant 10 months after surgery, and I too went through the feelings of guilt and failure. But with a wonderful support team that included the dieticians from my surgeon's office, my OB doc, primary care doc, psychiatrist, and husband, I was able to maintain good but healthy weight gain. The first trimester was the toughest, when I lost a bunch of weight and was so concerned with how the baby would be affected. I was able to relax a bit after doing an amnio (I'm 35 so I "qualified" to have this done! ha ha ) and finding out that at least my baby was developing okay. I ate pretty good, tried to exercise when I could and felt like it, and tried to relax. Everyone said I looked great, and truthfully, I felt great compared to my other pregnancies. That should have been expected though, since I lost nearly 150 pounds! The biggest difference was that I didn't have diabetes and high blood pressure and I didn't feel so darn heavy! The birth itself was the real testimony to another great reason for having WLS. It was so easy this time because I was able to do all the work that's needed to give birth! When Laila was born, she had all fingers and toes, and everything else was great too. My other babies weighed nearly 10 pounds each because of diabetes, but Laila was born at a healthy 7 pounds 3 ounces. To me, she was tiny! I lost 17 pounds right off the bat after giving birth and I thought, "great, this will be a breeze!" but honestly, this time has been the test. I am nursing, but I've gained weight and it's freaking me out. I'm up to 204 as of yesterday and I have taken it a bit hard. But I haven't exercised and my appetite has been out of this world since nursing. With fatigue from sleepless nights and nursing constantly, I just don't feel like exercising right now. So I've placed another post to get together with others to exercise and get support in order to continue to be motivated to lose and maintain a healthy weight. I know I've said a lot here, but I hope it's helped. I'm here anytime you need a friend. Good luck with your appointment. If it turns out you are pregnant, get a good team together and work with them to have a healthy baby. You'll be fine. Take care! Jennifer
