Hi I am going to my consult with surgeon on March 25th. I am hoping to get this surgery by July or August if not sooner. I have 2 children, my 4 year old boy and 2 year old girl. I am concerned about the first month or so after surgery. They like to sit with me and my daughter likes to jump on me, which is fun now, but after surgery??? YIKES!! We play rough sometimes and i am worried they will feel rejected if they cant play with mom for a while. Hubby is supportive and a wonderful dad and husband. Dad is great, but he's not mom. Any advice on how to deal with happy kids????? Thanks Chris

Hi Chris, I know the feeling. I fell and broke my back almost 3 years ago. I had a 3 year old and he even slept on me at times all night long. So how do you deal with getting him not to do that and not to sit on me like he used to? Well I explained everything to him so he would understand. I found that he could sit on the arm of the chair I sit in with my arm around him. So he still had mom time to himself. We used to rough house alot too and still do to a certain extent. I vocally urge him on and I can use my arms and legs to trap him. You can find a way and they will understand the limits, you just have to be patient and prepare them now before your surgery. Try playacting with them both. Pretend you have had the surgery and find other ways to play with them that wont hurt you and will satisfy their need for mom time. Dad can help too by playing with you to fill in where you can't. Make a quiet time where they can sit on the arm of the chair with you to watch tv or read with you. My son is now 6 and we still sit together on the chair and he reads to me now. We still fuss and wrestle but he is more careful and I have found new things to do with him, his imagination is great. Take your cue from your kids and you'll do fine. I am able to walk with difficulty and I have very limited times of sitting and standing, I can't lift so for me that is bad because I love picking up my kids and hugging them or playing with them so I know it can be done. Good luck and God Bless. Kathy

I am schedualed for surgery on 6/13 & also have a 2 year old who is attached to mommy 24/7. I have started working with having her sit next to me not ON me. & Telling her about mommy's boo boo on her tummy, but I would like to know more too. Good Luck, let me know what advise you get!
