LONG--Did I ever tell you....
Needless to say, we were FLOORED!!! Of course, thinking..... was it something that we did?? DH had went throughout the entire house, over the course of like 6 months before we listed the house, and upgraded all of the light fixtures, among other things.
Well, we found out, through the grapevine, that >>>>SORRY........ long......
The city was paving like 5 streets, ours being one of them, and thier plan was, while they were going to be paving, they were going to re-do the exsisting water lines, so, one by one all of the streets were dug up & the water lines replaced.
***** But, going back, a little background, We listed the house March 31st, 2008. We had an offer 4 days later, and we accepted the offer. About 10 days later, we received a letter in the mail from the city that they were going to be paving, and about the water lines. FIRST thing we did, was call our realtor, and asked him "what should we do, we accepted the offer" He said to us, "you do not need to disclose that, since you have accepted an offer" So, we didn't. We were paying our realtor for the advice. He should know the laws, consequences & such.
Anyways, So, here we are FREAKING OUT about the fire, and if it was something we did to the house could have resulted in a fire. EXTREME GUILT here.
So, it is told to (grapevine) us, that since the city had re-done some of the water lines, the city had sent out notices to all of the people in that area and let them know that there might be a potential for their water freezing up, and to let their water drip, to try & prevent that from happening.
(Here we are in the last part of March, and the weather still dips below freezing at night)
So, the guy that bought the house, his water froze up & when he called the city to complain, evidently, they sent someone over to his house (this is where it is fuzzy-- not sure if it was a city employee, or if the city hired someone who delt with this type of thing & specialized in it)
and somehow caught the house on FIRE!!!!
So, no one is living at the house right now, we drove by there this last weekend, and there is a big industrial-sized dumpster in the driveway, a lockbox on the front door handle, and you can see into the livingroom upstairs, that there is NO sheetrock on the celing, just vapor barrier!! Not to mention, that there is a tarp covering the entire roof!!!
DH told me that he drove by after he read about it in the paper, that all of the carpeting was laying out in the front yard!!! That carpet was 11 months old!!!! We put up with the CRAPPIEST, GROSSEST, MOST DISGUSTING carpeting, and put in new stuff to get the house to sell.
So, I am sure he had homeowners insurance in place, so, they will fix the house, but, man, putting myself in a new homeowners shoes..... THAT JUST PLAIN SUCKS!!!!
OK, long enough, I wrote a NOVEL!!
