HELP Me Get My 5-Year Old In His Own Bed!!!!
Ok -- I already know that my husband and I have created this situation -- now I need help changing it!
Here's the situation: I work nights, 10 PM - 6 AM. We got my son into his own room....for about 2 days. After I would leave at night, my son would call "Daaaadd?" Being that my husband can't dare to lose a moment of sleep ... he has decided that letting my son sleep with him was much easier than working with my son to stay in bed.
Anyway -- here we are. My son sleeps with my husband Mon-Fri, and on the weekends, he sleeps with me in the spare bedroom!!!
Anyone have a sure-fire way to get my son into his own bed????
Thanks,
Katherine

WELCOME KATHERINE!!!!!
Speaking from experience with a 2 year old here.
PATIENCE.
With our house....... it takes 2 weeks, or it can be 2 months to get us into a good routine, and 2 days to break it!!! Just from my experience.
When we moved this last summer, our son's 2nd birthday was the 2nd night we spent in our house. He started getting up at night (I am sure it was the new surroundings & break in our 'boring old routine') we were about the 4th night & realized hey, we as parents are NOT helping the situation!!!! So, when he would get up, and come into our room, we would put him back to bed (dad after 2 nights, realized taking the easy way, of just going in & sleeping with him was NOT going to work out in the long run) and then return to our bed.
Basically, after about 2 weeks, of putting back to bed, tucking him in, and returning to our bed, it tapered off, and now, he sleeps through the night in his own bed, in his own room.
.........................well, until he gets sick, then it will all start again!!!!........................
I sure hope I was of a little bit of help, this is just my own experience talking here!!!!

You have to watch this: http://www.supernanny.com/TV-Show/Clips/Clips/Stay-in-Bed-Te chnique.aspx
It actually works! A friend of mine had me watch it because I was having trouble with my daughter - also 5 years old. It is torture the first night, I'm not going to lie about that! But, the next night is much easier, and each night better and better. Your child realizes you are serious as long as you follow it exactly. The hardest part of it is the first night and not talking to your child after a certain point. You feel like you are being mean, but really you are showing them that you mean business. I hope this helps!
