Any Easter Plans??
Being that I am Jewish, and Johnny is Christian, we celebrate both holidays with the kids..Teaching them about Judisiam and also Christianity....We don't go to Church on a regular basis, but I do read the bible to them, and I also teach them traditions...As far as Easter goes, I have their Easter Story book that I will read to them, and I made baskets for them..No candy, just books and a few little toys..I don't want them to know so much of the "commercial" end of it..Am I wrong not to let them have candy? What do you and your families do at Easter?

Well I am Baptist and Wally is Cathloic although not practicing. So we will go to my CHurch that am and then have lunch with his family. HE has six brothers all married with Kids. Then have a huge easter egg hunt. Janielyn is the youngest. THe next is 8. lol lol So it should be really fun. I did or I will make her an Easter basket. But ONLY put candy in it that wally likes so that I dont eat any of it. lol lol a peanut butter bunny and jelly bellies. lol lol I think in the future. I prob will put a hollow bunny and jelly beans. Not so much choc. Cause you know I will prob end of eating that. lol lol I also have a bunny to put in it stuffed. And some hair things, shoes and a cute camfo (pink) hat I would LOVE to get the Easter Story book. I want her to have a bunch of books which I did get at Christmas but have not seen that one.

I am sorry to say I got caught up in commercialized "Easter"
simply because it was fun when the kids were younger. I never told them that there was or wasn't an Easter bunny or ect... because I didn't want them to be outed at school, but I also didn't want them to think that they were bad or something and the "bunny/santa/tooth fairy" didn't come if I didn't have the money to do whatever it was for the time. I have always been a realist I'd like to think and have pretty much been open with my children. So I think they always knew it was me who hid the baskets and filled the eggs. I would do their favorite candies but also included toys or books or movies to help fill the basket so that it wasn't all candy. I posted yesterday b/c I wanted to get away from candy/gift filled baskets that my children have grown to expect but wasn't sure how to keep the fun of the tradition. So this year I will do Easter cards with a little $, a small choc bunny and probably the usual family dinner.
See JoAnn, im like that also...I dont say anything about Santa, Easter Bunny, or stuff like that..I know they are still real young, so I don't know what will happen in the future..Oh, at Christmas time, I went NUTZ!!! I spent WAY too much LOL So I too am in the commercial guilt LOL....I am sure I will always go nutz at Christmas time, my mom always tried..Money was really tight growing up, (I am the youngest of 8)..But we always had what we needed/wanted...I never knew we were broke growing up, my mom and dad always made everything fun, so I guess money was never a thought..

Oh well let me reassure you all that I also get caught up in the commercial part to. And I already talk about Santa, Easter Bunny ect BUT I will also make sure that she knows the TRUE story behind the Holidays also. My mom always made sure we knew that FIRST! lol lol But my mom also told us the day we actually STOPPED believeing in santa or the Easter bunny we would not get santa gifts or a basket. lol lol NEEDLESS to say I STILL beleive. lol lol I kinda went nuts this past Christmas and she was just two months old. Slept the whole time. I have however bought already bought some stuff that I have put up in the closet for Christmas this year for her. I TRY to always be through shopping no later than Sept. lol lol That way I can enjoy the decorating and just the smells of Christmas and the fellowship that I love the most!

It is so hard. Even though not everyone around us in the "real" world celebrates the same holidays. Here if my children would have went to kindergarten saying there was no Santa that would have been horrible. I never told them until they asked and when they did ask I told them the truth. Again b/c I had children at a young age things were always a struggle especially when my oldest was little. I justify being open with him after one year when my husband was in college full time. I was working 2 jobs already and we didn't have enough money for christmas. I was heart broken to say the least! I only had enough money to buy 1 thing from his list (nintendo 64) and had to buy it used from gamestop. He was young (6) and didn't need to hear how broke we were but I didn't want him to think he must have been bad and that's why Santa didn't bring him anything after hearing the stories kids told at school about Santa and their loads of gifts. So we had a talk and it worked out for us.
We have big plans for the next few days.
We are Chrisitian, raising the children in a non-denominational bible based church. We go to church every Sunday, participate in multiple extended learning oppurtunities; bible studies, MOPS etc. They have learned about the death and resurrection of Jesus. They are being taught the reason we celebrate. With that, they are 8 months, 2, 3, and 4 so they do like to talk about the Easter Bunny. After all isn't getting present and candy more fun than talking about dying and resurrection.
I will allow them the "fun - commercial" stuff too. We got pretty outfits to wear to church on Sunday. Today we are coloring eggs. Saturday we are going to an Easter Egg Hunt at the church. Sunday we will celebrate the death and resurrection.
I do not encourage them to believe or not to believe in the Easter Bunny. When they talk about the EB, I allow it. Then after that coversation is over, I talk about the meaning behind the holiday. I remember the excitement I felt over the EB, SC and the TF. I want my kids to have that fun but more importantly I want them to know about Jesus. I hope I am balancing it well, I guess time will tell.
God Bless and Happy Easter!

We are trying very hard to teach Sadie the true meaning of the Holiday. We read to her every night and each night spend a little of the time reading from her bible story book...she has 3 different ones. We've been reading the Easter story this week....repetition is good for them at this age so we've read it every night. We do go to church on Sundays but Easter is the only holiday we spend with my family vs dh's family. We will be going to my sister's church with her family. We decided not to do the candy thing for Sadie....last yr after Easter I got her a prefilled basket for 75% off...took the candy out and left the stuffed bunny etc... I put it away so she does have a basket minus the candy. She will do the egg hunt with my nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She'll get a little candy there..but we decided to put coins in a lot of the eggs instead of candy this yr. We do have my niece's baby shower on Sat too so it'll be busy...oh yeah and my other niece is turning 21 on Sat so they are planning to take her out for a bit. We decided not to do the big dinner this yr either and are doing a potluck..appetizer type thing. We are traveling 3 1/2 hrs to get there so they voted we bring the drinks....easy for me LOL. We'll spend the afternoon on Sun driving back home. All 5 of us are going...it's not real often that we can do something all together as my 18 yr old is always working. I'm looking forward to the car trip....call me crazy...but I am. They will be forced to have conversation with us LOL.
