"He's a BIG boy"...

I've gotten a few more of these type of comments than I can handle, and I don't know what to do with them. Kaden is now 9 months old, and I don't think he's fat, but people always comment on how big he is. Of course, I'm more sensitive than most moms (as I'm sure a lot of us on here are) and I really don't want to pass my issues on to him. He eats about 1/2-1 serving of the stage 2 foods at 2-3 meals/day when he's feeling well. He has about 6 seven ounce bottles of formula in a 24 hour period. He also eats some finger foods with meals, fruit or veggie puffs, or tiny bits of whatever we're having. He's in mostly 9-12 month clothes, but they range quite a bit. We don't limit how much he can have as he always tells us when he's done. (Ok, well there have been the one or two times he's been a bottomless pit...lol!) He's learning to sign for a bottle or something to drink, tells us when he wants more of something (signing) and shows a preference for different things at different meals. He will try anything, and eats a variety of things. I guess I need some advice on how to handle the comments. Later I'll ask about advice on how not to pass on my issues...lol. Thanks. You can look at my www and see pictures of him, and tell me if you think he's "big", or more, TOO big. -Donna

Donna, All I see in those pictures is one handsome happy little boy. He doesn't seem big to me. I have a nephew that is 9 months old and I believe it looks like he's even a bit bigger than Kaden. He just looks healthy too me...not fat just healthy. I think you are doing a great job with him. I wouldn't worry too much about what others say only you and Tina know whether he's healthy or not. I understand I worry that I'll pass those old habits on to Sadie too. Michelle

Donna, Don't worry. Babies only eat when they are hungry. They don't have food issues. Right now, he isn't very active and he is constantly growing, so he needs food to keep up with his metabolism, but he stores it for when he starts really moving. Don't restrict his eating at all. That is where issues arise. Dylan is 16 months and is in 24 month clothes. He is big as well. However, he isn't fat. He is just healthy and growing. I am going to assume that Kaden is the same way. He is fine. Don't worry. I think he is just a beautiful, healthy boy. You done good moms! Hugs, Heather B
