Hi Ladies, I am going to post this here and also on the Post OP Prego board so for those of you that are on both... sorry for the double post. My Emily is 8 months old.. she is eating pretty much all stage 2 foods. I am a little concerned because the Ped said to continue to give her formula... and Emily doesnt seem to want it very much. She eats rice cereal and fruit for breakfast.. a 4-6 oz bottle around 10am then down for a nap... lunch is usually veggies, fruit and somtimes cereal if she is just really hungry.. then a 4-6 oz bottle of formula around 2-3, then dinner of a meat and veggie then a 4-6 oz bottle before bed. The reason I am concerned is that I dont feel that she is getting enough fluids. She isnt interested in a sippy cup..I have tried to give her watered down juice... not interested in that from a cup. Can any of you tell me... how many oz of fluids should she be getting? And can anyone tell me what type of sippy cup they have been able to get their kids to be interested in? She just has such a hard time sucking juice out of it and if I take the seal out it pours everywhere!!! Thanks girls! Shannon

Hi Shannon- My pedi told me that from 6-12 mos they need at least 24 oz of formula a day to make up thier vitamin requirements. You also count the amount of formula you are using to mix thier cereal together as part of the daily total Hope it helps- Janine

Shannon- I just wanted to say hello. Unfortunately Hunter is only just about 5 months old!! I hope you get your answer!! For Hunter's age, I think he is doing the "age appropriate" formula & cereal. In the next couple of weeks, I am going to start to introduce him to carrots & peas!!! YAY!!! -Jamie & Hunter

I should've added about the sippy cup. I (well... Danny) loves the Nuby sippy cups. You can get them with or without the handles. The whole top of it is that silicone like a nipple. When he started with them, he chewed on it and that got the fluid out. Now @ 1 year he's drinking out of it like a pro. We tried a LOT of sippy cups and that one worked the easiest for us. They are readily available at walmart, babies r us, etc I'd skip the juice, water, et****il she is getting the formula she needs. The formula is still important at this point for the vitamins, especially the calcium. I just use water or watered down juice at meals to "wa**** down". -Janine

Thanks ladies for the responses, I will try changing a few things around.. giving her bottle first in the morning then feeding a little bit later. Thanks for the suggestions.. I think we will take a trip to the Walmart today to try the nuby brand!! HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Oddly enough, Kaden seems to like and be able to use those toss and take ones, I think from First Years. They're clear plastic ones with a cap for the sippy part. He also likes trying to drink from them without the lid as a cup. One thing that might get her more interested in cups is letting her play with them in the bath. I think thats one reason he's interested in them is that he enjoys exploring with them at other times. -Donna

I know I'm a little late on this reply but I have probably spent over $100 trying to find that magical sippy cup. My son is 15 months old but we've done sippy cups forever. Surprisingly, he likes the ones with the pop up straws. They say they are for 2+ year olds but those are the ones he took to first. I did use the Nuby ones mentioned by someone else but as we are weaning from the bottle, I weaned him off of those because they are so similar. I didn't find them until after I had tried about a dozen cups already or I would've started there. What I'm finding to be a pain in the rear is cleaning all of them. My problem isn't so much as finding one he likes now, he likes them all (take and toss are great for restaurants b/c you can leave the cup there and not feel so bad). I find it hard to get them all cleaned perfectly. I mean, just when I've dissected the straw from the lid and the lid from the cup, now I find that I have to take out his flip thing too because there was mold in there. I'm a germ freak to begin with but at $5 a sippy cup, c'mon...it should almost clean itself. Khaki Kyan - 15 mos. old Twins EDD 04/12/2007
