Hello, I have posted a few times on the postop pregnancy website, but didn't know this parenting one existed. This is great. Anyway, I have a 5 month old daughter Madison and this is my 1st baby. I have a few questions, that I was hoping you lovely ladies might help me with?.... 1st off - how many naps are or did your 5 month old take during the day? How long were they? My daughter seems to sleep a lot. She sleeps 12 hours straight at night (WONDERFUL), but then takes a nap every 2 hours a day for about an hour or so and 1 of them is always 2 hours. So 3 naps during the day, totalling about 4 hours. Is that too much? Should I try and stop it? 2nd - What are good toys for this age group? She has every toy under the moon (all my friends gave me hand me downs) exersaucer, noahs ark gymini, aquarium chair, aquarium gymini, the bumbo chair, the boppy and a bouncy chair. Plus a ton of little toys. She gets bored really fast. She wants to be walking already, always needs my attention on her or she cries. Any suggestions? 3rd - How many of your 5 month olds were talking at this point? Not real words, obviously, but making the ba- ba- ba or any noises? Madison used to talk up a storm around 3 months and during her 4th month (while teething), she stopped. She barely makes any noise at all and I am just worried about it. Or is this normal and it will come back maybe this 5th month? SOrry to sound so worried about everything. But this is my first time around and we aren't seeing the doctor for another month. Thank you Philippa Felder PS Where do I go to put a picture of my daughter so that it shows up when I post each time?

Hey Philippa- Danny took three naps a day up until he was around 7 mos old. Now he takes 2. The naps are basically 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I DID wake him up around 6 mos old if they were longer than 1 1/2 hours because he stopped sleeping through the night. If she's sleeping through the night, I wouldn't worry about waking her up. Danny's naps were mostly 3 hours apart during the day @ 5 mos old. His "through the night" was from around 7pm to 6am. I gave Danny access to a huge pile of tupperware type bowls and he stacked them, filled them with balls (I got the fisher price ones with the things inside them... can't think of the name of them... same as the wonder blocks which he also loves) bangs on them with large plastic "wooden" spoons. He loved balls... all different sizes, colors, materials. Anything VTech musical toy he loved and still loves. Anything he could CHEW on was a big plus at that age. I can't remember off hand but I think at 5 mos old Danny said Dada for the first time. Just encourage any babble from her, mimic it or if it sounds like a "real" word, use that word after her baby talk. Danny was famous for "acyha" which sounded like "Yeah" so we said that alot and now he says "yeah" all the time. Welcome to the parenting board! -Janine

Hello Philippa, Naps- I let Aiden nap when he seem like he needed it. 3+ times a day. He would go through spells where he would sleep more when he was in a growth spurt. Toys- Sounds like you have the toy department all covered. Talking- A has said maaa, daddad and some baba sounds but it wasnt directed to us. It was him making sounds. does that make since. Some days A will talk alot and other days he wont. Madison sounds perfectly normal I wouldnt worry one bit Your profile pic. I cant rmbr exactly but you go to the mainboard and edit profile. some where there are directions,

Philippa- My son Hunter just turned 4 months, so we are behind your son!! Right now, he barely sleeps AT ALL during the day. I would drop him off at the sitters at 6:30am, and he was lucky to get an hour nap there, with all the other kids for him to watch & interact with. When daddy would pick him up, they would come home about 3:00pm and Hunter would either nap another hour OR NOT. He just doesn't sleep during the day. And he usually only wakes up once at night. As for toys, whatever he grabs, goes right to his mouth!! HA HA But he is just talking up a storm to listen to all the neat sounds he can make, including "that FAKE cough" -Jamie & Hunter

First of all, sound like your daughter is right on schedual. So don't worry. Second of all, have you purchased the book "What to Expect The First Year"? It's by the same authors who wrote "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and "What to Expect During the Toddler Years". I'm a mom of 4 and I still use it. Each baby is so different but it covers a wide base of things. I highly recommend it. You can buy it at bookstores, ebay, and Amazon.com I emailed some pics of Kayden to Marsha (Natesmommy) and she sized them for me and helped me put them on my profile for my posts. Tammy

At 5 months and still now Jackson will generally take 1 or 2 naps a day, usually around an hour andf a half. I believe he always took 2 when he was 5 months. Well at five months he loved musucal toys, anything that made noises. I just spent a fortune on the Elmo TMX and will let you know haw jackson likes it. When I went to my grandmas, I forgot his toys and grandma pulled out the ol measuring spoons and cups and some tuperware lids and Jackson had a ball for hours. Jackson is contantly babbling at this point but not so much at 5 months. He would sqeel alot but thats about it Jess
