Hormone Therapy

Research has shown that steroid and estrogen therapy as well as pregnancy can exacerbate the growth of preexisting liver hemangiomas. While the exact mechanism by which hormones influence the growth of hemangioma is not known, pregnancy and estrogen-based medications can cause liver hemangiomas to grow.

I live in the Uniontown area and just had my RNY surgery on April 3rd. I have been trying to go the support group at Magee, but its so far away. I would love to attend a support group close to home and meet others in the area going through the same process. I'm planning on attending the July 1st meeting. Yay!! Looking forward to meeting local folks!

Topic: Barix, Langhorne, Post-Op Support Group Meeting Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Come out and support each other as we find ways to maintain our wonderful weight loss.  As always, the main focus of this meeting is topics as they relate to post-ops, so please come by and share your WOW moments, as well as whatever else is on your mind.

The Place:  280 Middletown Boulevard, Langhorne, PA 19047
The time:  7 p.m. until approximately 8:30 p.m.

If you are celebrating a surgiversary, please bring any props (clothes worn prior to WLS, pictures), you will get time to share what it was like, what it is like now and what you look forward to.

We have a nutritionist at every meeting and while all are welcome to attend our support groups, nutritional consults cannot be given to non-Barix patients, but no matter where you had surgery if you feel in need of support we welcome you!

On a last note, while we recognize that there are times when babysitting might be an issue, it would be appreciated if small children were not brought to the meeting, as there are times people have a need to discuss things where having a small child there inhibits their ability to discuss openly talk about what they need to.  Thank you for your understanding.

P.S.  Leadership is needed for this meeting.  My commitment has ended, and I am not sure that I will be able to make it there this Thursday.  Come anyway, because I am sure there will be lively and informative discussion, and hopefully someone will step up to the plate!

Topic: Happy Father's Day Weekend!

Good Morning PA peeps!

It's been a while since I began a posting so here it goes.  First - a Happy Father's Day to all the dads, granddads, step-dads, foster dads out there It's been almost 20 years since my dad died and I do miss him especially during the summer.  I remember sitting and watching/listening to the Phillies games with him when I was a kid.  I really did get my love of baseball from him.

My job will be officially beginning on July 1st.  Attended a meeting this past week about my benefits.  Have still been going in and doing some volunteer work.  My summer hours will not be bad at all (8:30 to 2:30).  Still get to go to Cape May for a week in June, July and August.  Am heading down there on Thursday for my first week.  I can't wait.

To all the teachers out there - happy end of school.  To all the parents out there - happy summer with the kids.

Well that's about it for a gorgeous Saturday in beautiful Roxborough, PA.  Hope that everyone has a super weekend and that we all make healthy food choices.  Take care.

Donna
