Well for one thing, it is Friday and that is always a positive for me, add to that that I have a long weekend to look forward to, one that will involve spending time with people and doing things I enjoy that makes for a positive mind set.  Hoping the weather turns out good, but no matter the weather, I intend to stay positive and enjoy the benefits of having my health and the ability to move about freely!

Here's hoping you can find a bunch of stuff to help you stay positive and/or share some WOW moments with the rest of us.

As I like to say, having a good day is about the choice to do so and if you are met with real challenges, start over as soon as you can. . .

Have a great day and a marvelous weekend, as I am not sure I will be on here a whole lot this weekend!!!

Good Morning Lynn & Ida and those who've yet to arrive!

Lynn it sure does sound like you will get your exercise over the next week (lol). . .  figuring out what goes, what to pack and then selling stuff, so much fun, I remember the purging I did when I moved from NY to NJ, it was a month or more of sorting through and at the end I thought it would never be done, thankfully, my sister from another mother came down the weekend between closing and moving and helped get me done. . .

My day goes like this, been to the gym where I burned off 475 calories in 47 minutes or so, now I'm at work, probably be a busy day due to the holiday weekend, but that's ok, cause come 4 o'clock I'm outta here and ready to enjoy my 3-day weekend, this evening I'll probably head to the women's AA meeting I go to and then home to relax, got to get up and get busy with house stuff tomorrow before a friend I work with comes to do something for the day. . . anyway, hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  Ida, enjoy your 4-day, I'm just a bit jealous ;)

Hugs, Laureen

Good Morning Lynn and PA!

I'm off today!!!!!  Sitting here sipping my protein shake.  I have 4 day weekend...Not sure what's going on, it's so nice to just have nothing to do!!!!!

The guys are working on the house, our adopted son-in-law (our son-in-laws) cousin will be here to work with Gene later today.

I should be organizing/cleaning something, since completely grad school, I just don't want to...

Hope you all have a wonderful day...

Ida

Up and around for a busy day. I literally stayed in PJ's all day yesterday recovering from my UTI. Drank a ton of fluids and it does seem that the antibiotics are working their magic today. This was a pretty bad episode - haven't had one in quite a long time.

Today I work, then come home and toss a few things into a bag to fly to PA for a week. We are packing the house up to sell - and I imagine I will be selling quite a bit of stuff along the way actually! Mike's sister is flying out to help me and I know she will be a huge help. She is a real organizer. I hate to think of having a garage sale, but I might. It may work better than CraigsList.

The PA house is sold, as long as the buyer's financing goes thru. Mike will move into a month to month rental and is very likely committed to stay at his company thru December 1, although that changes almost daily now. Very complicated business dealings there....high stress levels....so I am hoping that even after I come back to FL his sister will be able to stay for a while in PA to just take care of the day to day stuff.

TGIF and happy long weekend ~ hope that most of you have Monday off!

Dee, the fears before any surgery are very normal. I recommend that you ask a LOT of questions. Your surgeon should be able to ease your mind about waking up. And you may or may not struggle with head hunger....but I won't mislead you here, a lot of the work that lies ahead is in your head!

It might help you to list all the things you are afraid of, and turn each one into a question. You can ask the questions here, of course, but I suggest that you also take advantage of the opportunity to ask your doc and build a strong relationship there as well!

Hi Diane,

It is perfectly normal to be scared and think those thoughts! I know I did. I remember the morning of my surgery I was so nervous I was almost hyperventilating!! Trust in your surgeon and your decision to make a better, healthier life for yourself!

I am glad that you came to our board. There is a WEALTH of information, support and guidance here!!

I would suggest along with this board, go to a local support group. Not sure where you live, but I am sure you can find out through your surgeon/hospital where one is. Support is KEY to successing in this journey. I know I would not be as successful if I didn't have it in my life!!

Make sure to follow your doctors orders COMPLETELY!! Walk, sip, breathe, walk,,sip breathe!
Let us know how you make out!

Beth

I use a combination of things.  It looks like this:
I read a daily AA devotional.
I read a daily OA devotional.
I read scripture (read through the bible in a year on my kindle)

I have a set of prayers (Our Father, Serenity, 3rd Step)

Then I'll say (in my head) -- Lord, as I think about my day, I pray that my thinking would be divorced from self-pity, dishonest or self-seeking motives.  Today I may face indecision, may not be able to determine which course to take.  In such cases, I pray that You will give me inspiration, an intuitive thought or a decision.  (this is from an AA pamphlet actually).  Then I kind of go through my day.  What I have planned, what I will do, and what I will eat.  I kind of run the whole day through in my head from when I get off the train until I plan on going to bed.  Naturally, my day doesn't always look like my plan, but at least I have some sort of idea of what I need to accomplish that day -- work, doctor appt, exercise, food plan, etc.

Finally, I use a prayer pattern called ACTS.  Adoration -- where I'll pick an attribute of my Higher Power (today it was Healer) and think about that attribute and praise Him around that.  Confession -- obvious.  Thanksgiving -- my favorite part where I list things I am grateful for.  And, finally, Supplication where I might ask for blessings for others, and for myself I pray only for knowledge of God's will for me and the power to carry it out. (again, straight from AA).

I'll finish with the AA 7th step prayer.  That pretty much takes up my 35 minute commute.  I always feel amazing when I can focus in the morning.

Blessings, Jill
