Gone too long
Oh my goodness! A friend contacted me to check in about weight gain and asked about this site and suggestions to help. I was so crazy busy with moving and job that I fell off the OH site. Well, after checking to see if I still had a user account, I was pleasantly surprised to find my way all the way back!!
I have missed you PA OH!!!
My brief update , , , lost over 125 pounds and over the course of the last 3 to 4 years I have regained 40. Not good but actually I had lost too much at first and then leveled off. Right now I would love to lose 25 of that 40!!
I am a carb-o-holic and have no real accountability or support. HELP!!!!

Jan,
Don't know if you remember me or not but you are the reason that I went to Barix for WLS. Originally lost 105 lbs but regained 30 due to being out of work for over 2 years. I also would love to lose about 15 to 20 of my regain. Only come to the board occasionally but still attend the BArix support group on Saturdays. Not too many of the old timers around anymore. Hope that all is well with you. I'm still going down to Cape May for retreat and volunteer work. Currently I am working as a school secretary and loving the job. I hear you about being a carb-o-holic. Don't know about too much support up in your area. Would you want to go to OA? That was never my thing but it's the only thing I can think of off the top of my head. If you would like to drop me a line my e-mail is [email protected]. Thank you so much for being the catalyst for the greatest gift of my life. Take care.

Wow Donna, I certainly remember you!! I miss PA and NJ so much and I really need to get back for a visit. So great to hear how well you did with your WLS journey. Regain is part of it as well. It's what we do to use our tool to get back on track. Not into OA. I miss the support from Barix and all of the "old" timers because of the strong bond we had and continue to have . . . just on a different venue. Many of the my original Barix buddies I am still in touch with albeit on a sporadic basis.
I will get in touch. Would love to hear about the folks down at the shore at Cape May.
Thanks for replying!!

Jan,
Been a while since I posted on this board, I do post regularly on the Over Fifty Forum, which has a lot of old timers (years post-op), who support one another in various ways, through accountability threads such as What are you Eating and Commitment to Moving. . . it's all about trying to encourage one another through transparency, no one, at least not on the board, ever makes a negative comment, it's just many of us need to hold ourselves accountable and that's what we're trying to do.
There are some really dedicated people who've gone on about their business and are doing amazingly well, but then there are a good many of us who've taken a detour, the good thing about detours is that usually you can find you way back to where you need to be.
So if you'd like to join the party, come on over to Over Fifty Forum or just stay in touch. . .
Hugs, Laureen

Hi Jan,
I've been off OH altogether due to a computer breakdown, and replacement. I'm guessing it was close to two months. For awhile I was able to check-in to my Over Fifty Forum, which as Laureen said, is a very encouraging site.
I do keep up with you on Facebook, and love that.
I did have the 40 pound regain back between 2007 and 2009, but was starting to seriously lose that till this past summer. My diet took a huge downturn, as well as my exercise, as I struggled with gall bladder issues. I did get that taken out in August. Now, I'm trying to build back up as much as possible, while the weather stays decent. Once it gets cold, I'll see about joining the YMCA, and get involved more seriously. I just have to get through the holidays budget wise. My daughter does have a treadmill, which I'll see if I can get on it in the meantime.
Thanks for checking in. I still try to check in here, even though I am legally a resident of Michigan now. My home for 51 years was Bucks County, mostly Levittown. I do love it here, especially being so close to my grandchildren.

I have not been on here in forever! I too am working to lose some of my regain. I have 14 pounds to go to get back to my lowest weight after surgery. Hopefully I'll get there. I've been behaving myself except for my little nibbles of chocolate chips...I've found Ghirdelli 60% cocoa chocolate chips in the baking isle...so a couple a day keeps that chocolate craving to a dull roar...I take after my mom when it comes to chocolate love my chocolate :-)
I don't talk about my WLS prefer much more private so most of my FB conversations regarding FB are private messages. Gene and I were shopping today, he's been on a weight gain lately. We realized as we were talking about it January 6th 2014 will be 8 years for him, it has taken him 8 years to start gaining weight. Need to get that under control now that we both realize he is. I need to be more mindful of what I bring in the house again as I was 8 yrs ago....Hopefully I'll think about checking in here more often....

I really believe that RNY is good for a 100 pound weight loss and then a 20 pound bounceback regain. Net loss seems to be 80 pounds and it takes dedication to maintain that.
We all seem to have different reasons for our regain, but it seems that the body makes its own decision on how much to lose, when to stop and when to bounceback.
Some of us lose more at first and then have more bounceback regain. I fight hard to stay at goal, but went through my too skinny stage and my bounceback stage.
I know that there are people who have a different experience but for the most part, people think that they have failed when their net loss equals about 80 pounds. I think they have done excellent.
