There's a good reason (in my mind, at least) for counting from your highest weight, not your surgery weight... and that's to keep reinforcing that your surgery is JUST A TOOL.  It is not what is causing you to lose the weight, nor will it cause you to keep it off.  It's entirely possible to have the surgery and not lose the weight, or to not keep it off ... but you're succeeding because of YOU and YOUR ACTIONS. 

Before the surgeon re-routed your innards, you had already started on your journey.  Putting in a "safety net" to help you on that journey doesn't discount anything you had already accomplished.

Keep the surgery in its proper perspective and give yourself the credit you so rightly deserve.  Most of us fight for every last pound and inch along the way!
