I HAVE A DATE!!!!!!

So, I got the call this morning, and my date is 4/4/11. It's a lot further out than I wanted, but that's ok. My doc's office found a bit of a 'workaround' to getting a pre-cert. They can do the surgery as an outpatient (which doesn't require a pre-cert), and when I have the surgery, it will be up to the hospital to get the insurance company to authorize me spending the night. Without a doubt, the staff at the Institute for metabolic and bariatric surgery, really know their stuff. My hats off to them!! If anyone is on the fence about going to this office, don't hesitate. They are awesome. My surgeon is Robert Josloff, and he has been absolutely wonderful. One of the things that really impressed me, is the day that I met him, he thanked me for choosing him to be with me on this journey. That impressed the hell out of me!!
I'm a happy, happy, happy, happy girl!!!

some things you might find helpful are

an insulated lunch bag (you will need to bring your own food with you for a little while)

a blender (i like the magic bullet , it helps to make your protein shakes extra thick and milkshake like)

reusable ice packs for the lunchbag

baby spoons they help to remind you to eat slowly

refillable water bottles you will be carrying water or fluids everywhere you go

small containers with lids you will carry your own foods for a while until you figure what                you       can or can't eat

you may not want to buy these yet but have an idea where to get them:
protein powder GNC has some and they will refund your money if you don't like them
protein bars(less than 2g sugar per serving)
sugar free snacks
ready to drink protein remember less thn 2 g of sugar per serving
I didn't ask but which surgery are you having?

I'm having the sleeve. I agonized over whether I should get that, or the band, but I heard so much bad press about the band, I decided that wasn't for me. Plus, I didn't want to have to go back every other month or so, to get a fill.
This is awesome information, and I thank you so very, very much. I'm definitely going to make a shopping list and go to GNC. And fortunately, I work from home, so I won't have to worry about lunch bags and things like that.
Thanks again Cheryl!

This is a fabulous forum! Don't take it for granted!

Hi Jojo....I have a pic on my profile, but everytime I try to upload it to my avatar, it tells me it's too big. So I'll just keep trying.

Congrats! I've been happy with the Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Medicine so far, too. I got my date last Friday - 2/16. I can't believe it's only a little over two weeks away! Exciting and scary.

Congrats to you!!! It's odd that I got my date last Friday too, and it's 2 months out. And yet you're date is two weeks away. Hmmmmm....I wonder what the heck is up with that? I think I'm going to call, and try to find out.
Nevertheless, please keep me posted. Since we both go to the same place, I have a vested interest. And I know about all kinds of emotions. Believe me, when I think about it, I just want to throw up! But I know that we are doing the best possible thing for ourselves, in terms of getting healthy. Maybe I'll see you at one of the support meetings.
Take care!
Annette

That is strange. Maybe it's just that the doctors have different schedules. Chris Hyland, Dr. G's scheduler, just asked me when I wanted it done and, of course, my response was the sooner the better! I'll definitely see you at the support group meetings. Unfortunately, I have to miss this month because of work, but I'll definitely be there in March (hopefully a lot lighter!).

I called the office this morning, and Dr. Josloff only does the Bariatric surgeries the first monday of every month, whereas Dr. G, and Dr. Bonani do the surgeries M-T-W of each week.  When I heard that, I did get a bit nervous. I don't know that I want a surgeon that only does the procedures 12 days a year. I thought about switching, but of course, I would have to get an appt to see the new doc. My daughter says that I should just leave it as is, but I'm still kicking it around.
Well I will definitely look to meet you in March. Take care Eileen, and again, Congratulations!
