I knew I would forget.....
I always swore my mother jinxed me into getting mine - took me shopping when I was 12 to buy pads and 'sanitary belts' - does anybody but me remember those nasty things?! Anyway, when we got home I went to the bathroom and lo and behold there it was - I swear the woman had a sixth sense about those things and trust me, she had 3 daughters and knew when each of our cycles was due!
Never got a present, tho...but hey, now that I'm NOT having it anymore maybe I should treat myself to something special??
Congrats to Molly - I love the Pandora bracelet gift idea - I'm not all that familiar with them but they seem very special.

My poor daughter got hers at 11 and we were in the mall. Thank God there was a CVS nearby! She took it surprisingly well, but I didn't get her a gift. LOL By the way, her 21st birthday is on the 23rd. The Pandora bracelet sounds like a good idea. She did ask for a netbook, but that doesn't sound very meaningful.
Steffi,
Congratulations to you both!
Both of my girls got special (read: GOOD quality, grownup) rings containing their birthstones. Then for their sweet 16, they got the matching necklaces, and for their 18th, they got the matching earrings. For Katie's 21st, she got small diamond stud earrings (and that's my intention for Becky as well, of course).
We also went to a nice mom and daughter dinner out for each of them. It made the experience special. Heaven knows, it will have many icky "i hate being a girl" times in the future, but at least that threshold itself is commemorated nicely.

Aww this kind of made me tear up! We have all become such good friends when things happen to your kids it feels like it is happening to my family! I guess well, because in a way it is!
I didn't get a present either but like the idea of the charm bracelet and a special grown up time out with Mom.
I was in 7th grade, about 12 and my deal was once the period showed up it was time to do the "grown up things" - shave your legs etc. lol no present just more maintenance!

Steffi, I love the charm bracelet idea. I got one at age 11 (not for my period, though), and added to it over the years. Then, for many years, it just sat....but I began adding to it again an adult. In fact, I bought a charm for my one year surgiversary, engraved with the date and the number 101, which was my loss at that point.
So...go with the bracelet! Not too pricey, but lasting value!

I gotta ask, is this a serious thread or some kind of girl humor? What do boys get? A new red rider BB gun for pubic hair, I mean seriously.
Of course we get nothing then when it all goes south 50 years later we get to deal with the dreaded PMS and menopause.
Something wrong with this picture.
