Barix Question

I am leaning toward Dr. Marymor because he is a "known" entity and those who have had him on the board really speak well of him.

The discussion I recall of his "open" vs. lap procedures is that it is in part based on his long history of doing bypass surgery, compared to the relatively recent advent of laparoscopic procedures as the norm. If I were facing surgery tomorrow, I would certaily put the topic out on the table to see what he (or any doctor) had to say!

Seems like Dr. Marymor has the majority.  He won't steer you wrong.  He is upfront and honest.

Hi Steve - welcome back! Long time, no post. Your pic looks great - sounds like you and Tara are doing very well.

I will echo Jojo's response - I loved Dr Boe but he is also gone from Barix, but if I were to have a problem arise I would run right back to Barix and any of the surgeons they have on staff. I have to believe that a place like Barix is only going to hire the best - and a surgeon really isn't any different than other professional positions - contracts expire, they move on - it's life.

In a few years my husband and I are planning on relocating and I know there is a Center of Excellence where we're going, so I will trust the surgeons there just as much as Dr Boe.

I am living proof of that. and I guess I am just letting others know it doesn't have to be scary if your surgeon goes away. Mine did. Was I frustrated? Yeah.

JoJo I totally get that...I had my surgery oct15, 2009 and Dr. Timothy Shope did my surgery and he left for Washington the day after.  I was extremely upset because if someone would have told me this ahead of time I would have choosen another doctor to do my surgery.  My follow ups were seen by someone that was "in training" and I felt so alone with my healing and post op phrase.

If needed, I will probably go to Dr. Marymour, but I've already talked to my family doc about doing my followups. He's very knowledgeable, even understanding the vitamins and amounts we need. And he had said pretty much the same thing JoJo said---surgery is over, so I don't really need a surgeon now. Not to mention I have a huge deductible, so I'd rather pay just one doc.

Steve good to see you glad to hear you are doing well.  I think the main reason alot of us are upset that Dr P left is because she made me feel like a relationship was developed because this is not surgery like having shoulder surgery like well okay your shoulder is fixed do the physical therapy and move on.  We are on a journey/Marathon for the rest of our life.  I have a gut feeling Dr P like Marymor will be back if not at Barix then in the area and like I said to Dr P if that is the case we are there.  I know I will get good care at Barix that I have no doubt but Dr P leaving placed an emptiness in alot of us.  I guess its called mourning.  I am going to go with Marymor. Positive feeling here.  There is no replacement for Dr P she is one of a kind!
