Hi everyone and Happy Holidays! I have a question regarding self pay for vertical sleeve. I do have insurance coverage however, as of 2011 my employer has excluded all WLS, needless to say I am devastated and am now very seriously looking at self pay options.
I was quoted by  a few doctors in the Wilkes Barre area around 20k. Anyone have any insight, recommendations, advice on some surgeons in PA that offer good self pay packages??
I have no problem traveling a few hours for surgery and have been looking into surgeons in the Philly area.
Thanks in advance for your help:)

Hi and Welcome to the PA board.

I wish I could give you some direction for your search for self-pay docs but I am not up on the information.  Have you checked Barix Clinic in Langhorne.  It is about two hours from Wilkes Barre, and they are awesome.  I would suggest you give them a call and see what they can do.  Again, I have no clue what they will say, I am just offering a suggestion.

Merry Christmas.

Check close because many only exclude certain types of WLS and even then if there are co-morbidity issues it can sometimes be over ridden.
Also watch the health-care reform disaster because that may come into play as to what they cannot exclude. It's gonna take serious homework on your part.

I would look a Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown. It's a Catholic Hospital.

I was self pay at Barix in Langhorne for RNY and it was $25,500.  No payment plan option, had to pay in advance - needless to say, my surgery was delayed in order to raise the $..

No retirement contribution last year, but surgery was a better investment!

I was self pay at Barix in 2006.  It is very pricey.  Have you considered the mexico route?  They have advertisements on this website.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Thanks everyone for your advice! Im hoping that at least some of the testing, blood work etc can somehow be covered by my insurance. I will continue on the search for the right surgeon and manageable self pay rate. Where there is a will, there is a way!
Hope all of you are having a wonderful Christmas Holiday :)

Had mine done at geisinger in Danville, you should check if they do pay'ts plus do you need any other surgery, like gall bladder or hernia repair all those things sometimes they can do together and then use your insurance for part of it for some of the costs......check it out....they do work with you...now you said Wilkesbarre, so I am assuming it is ghp up there?  hope this helped....
