I was just given a organic sweetner called Blue Agave, from a woman in my swim class. Has anyone out there in WLS land ever tried this? I react badlyto sugars over our limits. This says 16gr per serving, but the ingredient list shows only Agave nectar. If all else fails I guess a quick dash down to Langhorne to see the Nut will have to be done.Is this an ok sweetner for us?

I found this article to be very informative:

Basically, it's high-fructose corn syrup with better publicity. I'd avoid it!

If I remember correctly, the Barix "sugar under other names" card that I got after surgery has this as one of the sugar in disguise names.. I avoid it - same with cane syrup, evaporated cane juice

I had same question last week or so.....Agave has alot of carbs, althought zero cals.... but can cause dumping.    .my research revealed a better option for WLS patients is Stevia. I've been using it in half the quantity I used to use of Splenda --rather good

I found out the hard way that I am allergic to stevia - horrible bumpy itchy rash reaction to it..
