i guess doctors are people too.
if doctors say fat people are ugly and non-compliant won't the rest of the world agree and continue to think that way?

Maybe this article will open the eyes (and minds!) of those narrow-minded doctors who think every ailment known to man is caused by obesity.
I had more than my share of 'fat' remarks from doctors thru the years. When I was going thru a particularly difficult time with my periods I saw a new gyno - he was an older man - walked into the exam room, asked me what was wrong - I told him (severe bleeding, cramping, clotting) - he looked at me and said "You are TOO fat. Lose weight - you'll be fine" and turned around and walked out of the room! Needless to say I was stunned at first, then burst into tears. His nurse came in and asked what happened and I told her and she said 'Honey, do yourself a favor and go find a female gyno - she'll understand what you're going through" - seriously, this man never even examined me!
My second crappy encounter came with an orthopedic doctor when my knee first started giving me a lot of trouble - he looked at my x-rays and at my walking and said 'Well, if you were 20 years younger I'd fix it; if you were 20 years older I'd replace it. Go home and lose weight and you'll be fine' - yeah, like I hadn't tried that before??
So personally I think doctor's are some of THE worst when it comes to insensitivity towards the obese.

Kathy:
I agree it is so disgusting. I have had a bad ovary for about 15 years and put up with the terrible pain. Before surgery it had increased to where it was the size for removal but my gyno, who was a woman, said I was too fat to go through the surgery and put me on injections instead. Well here I am 120 pounds thinner and still with the bad ovary that should have been removed years ago.
Some people act as if fat is a decision we all make. I am sure if we had a choice, we would have not picked that problem. I guess, unless you have been there, you do not understand and we certainly do understand.
They say obesity is the last legal prejudice but one which must go!!!!!

Well hello stranger!! I haven't seen you post on here in ages, and may I add that YOU LOOK MARVELOUS!!! WOW!!
A good friend of mine just had a huge cyst removed along with her uterus lapriscopically (sp?) - took them 7 hours, tho, because the cyst was so large the doctor had to cut it apart to suck it out. Not sure I would recommend anyone be under anesthesia for 7 hours, but my friend is doing much, much better now. Hopefully they can take care of yours soon - I hear they're extremely painful - thank goodness I've never had anything like that.

I have one for the girls. About sixteen years ago when I was "morbidly obese" my gyno told me that the only way to stop the "leakage" was to have a hysterectomy and I said at 39 no way! Years later I did the gastric (and was I ever glad) he said to me after seeing how much weight I lost now you can have the sling done since you've lost all that weight. I just had the sling done this past Tuesday and guess what doctor it wasn't that did that surgery? Living well is the best revenge! I was pretty pissed at that comment and it stayed with me all those years. I have said it a million times if you don't like the way a person treats you dump them and move on. I am sure alot of people in the medical profession have been put in their place!
