Today I had my 1 year check up
Hello all;
Today I had my 1-year check up with Dr. Dempsey, this is the man who gave me my life back - Bless him! He was the surgeon who said I could have this surgery and that he would bring me safely through it. I put all my trust in this man on September 14, 2009 and so thrilled that I did.
I am very excited and pleased with the overall visit and very happy that Gene could accompany me and share this with me When he walked into the exam room his first words were "YOU LOOK GREAT!!!" It was a wonderful visit.
All my labs are good. He said to have my PCP fax him my labs that are scheduled for December.
I am 2 pounds below his goal weight for me. He asked me if I have hit a plateau in my weight loss. I told him that I am not loosing multiple pounds a week anymore. I think I have pretty much leveled off at times I'll loose a pound or two there are months that go by without that happening. I told him I am not actively trying to loose more weight at this point. I told him that any weight that has come off in the past couple months has been unintentional on my part and that I figure my body will tell me where it wants to be. He asked me if I was satisfied with my current weight. I told him I am very happy right where I am and if I gain a few pounds I'm okay with that also. He said good, he's glad to hear that is where my head is. He said he didn't want me to loose more than 5 pounds if I do loose anymore. I told him I'm good with that if it happens and if not I'm fine with that as well.
He asked me if I have his cell number programed into my phone so that I don't loose it again, I told him yes I do and I will use it if there is a next time for a hospital visit. He gave me a hug and told me he's very proud of my progress.....
He wants me back to see him until March 2011.

Ida,
Congratulations on the great check-up and I am not surprised that your surgeon is so happy at your weight loss. You truly have worked you ass off pardon the language and you have lived thru this with Gene so you were well educated on what to expect post-op. It really is the best feeling when your surgeon gives you his/her cell# to make sure that he/she is aware of any hitches we might hit post-op. It truly shows that my doctor cares for my well being and he is not just cut em and ship em kind of person. Congratulation again...
