I jumped ship
Well, don't know that I was missed...but, I'm back. I took a week off and was uber busy. Then this past weekend my brother wrecked his truck, got life flighted out to our nearest trauma center, was on a breathing tube until about 40 minutes ago. During the last couple days, I realized I couldn't get through this without my friends. Which prompted me to come back here.
You guys support me in a different way. I needed to get back to keep in touch and be here for any of you that may need someone like me. Guess I can't help anyone if I'm not here.
So, I haven't taken great care of myself...not getting my vitamins in...not drinking enough water...eating (gasp!) CARBS!!! I even sipped - pop. Which-by-the-way-I-will-NEVER-do-again! (say that really fast!!! that's how I say it.) it. hurts.
So, since my bro is on the mend, so shall I be. I got new vitamins that I hope to like better. I now remember I need to go get my water going so I get it all in today. and the carbs...well, I'm a stress eater and GAWD am I stressed! I'll try for the nuts instead.
Haven't weighed in over a week...no idea what that looks like.
Thanks for reading this far...

Glad your back! Sorry about your brother. I am sending thoughts and prayers your way. Remember to take care of yourself so you can take care of others during this stressful time.

So...here is my take on things - first of all - DUH....you were truly missed - your wit and wisdom helps so many of us! (Yes, for real!) secondly, I read this earlier today while I was sitting in meetings, and although I really USUALLY don't care about such things, I thought the tap tap tap of my fingernails might be a bit distracting to the other math nerds in the room, so I have had time to process this....I am sooo sooo sooo sorry about your brother...I am thankful that he is on the road to recovery. Can't imagine how scary things must have been, but what you need to remember is this is REAL life.....For most of your life you turned to food in times of stress, you have been healthy for a very short time and it is alwys easier to fall back on old habits no matter how much we try to ignore them. Give yourself a break - you have beaten yourself up enough, you are now back on track and that is what matters. My guess, you will slip up again, the best part about this life changing event is that the tool will always work if you work it! And if you think the rest of us haven't done the same thing, think again......We didn't need this surgery by accident and we didn't go into it lightly. A lot of thinking, research and decisions were made along the way. By coming back, and really, you were NOT gone long, you have now proven to yourself that you ARE important!
Congrats on THAT realization and keep moving forward!
Congrats on THAT realization and keep moving forward!
So sorry to hear about your brother but glad he is doing better!
Carbs are the first thing I go to in a stressful situation....just remember even in a family emergency you must remember to take care of yourself! I ALWAYS have at least a protein bar with me, and now that the weather is colder I leave a case of water bottles in the trunk of my car.
This year my Dad was in the hospital several times and I always thought ahead to bring some snacks and a bottle of water or if I was really desperate I would stop off at the gift shop for a bottle of water.... just some ideas!!
Don't go on the scale for another week or so...wait until your brother is out of the hospital and home. Stress can put lbs on too!!!
Take care,
Beth

First off, wanted to say that I am glad your brother survived his accident and I am praying for his full recovery.
As for being missed, there have been times when I've gone weeks without having time to post on here and have not felt missed, but what I realize is that life is busy post-WLS and the value of support from the folks here is tremendous, but just like the real world we live in, sometimes we get caught up and if we don't make the phone call, write that letter/email when we think of it, another week or two can pass before things come to mind again. . .
Take care of you, while doing for your brother/family. . .
Hugs, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

Thoughts and prayers honey.
Good for you for getting back on track. You can't help others if you yourself get sick. I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. And eventually, withou****er and vitamins, you WILL get sick.
From someone who sees it on the "other side of the bed"...I have empathy for what you are going through.
If you don't mind me asking...which facility is he at?

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
Not at all. He's in Hamot Trauma Center in Erie PA. He got out of ICU last night and is making great strides now that he's breathing on his own...off the morphine and propofol. His eyes are blood red but other than a few cuts and scrapes, he seems to be unscathed. I hope tho that this is a wakeup call for him. He needs to.
Glad you knew where to come when you needed support.
I'm happy your brother is on the mend.
As for you, you took the first step by coming back here. You know where your downfalls were and you know what to do to get back on track. You can do it! Just take it one day at a time, one meal at a time, or one hour at a time if you need to. (I need to take my own advice, now.)
Welcome back and YES you were missed.
