YIKES! I am starting this post

This morning I was at the gym bright and early...Well the sun came up at one point.

Did treadmill, then Tamar had me work Shoulders, chest and tricepts this morning. No pain no gain right??? Then did 15 minutes on the bike.

Does the feeling that I am going to puke fade in time?

I'll be riding my recumbant bike tonight for at least 8 miles - will try for 10. Did the treadmill last night - got in 1.2 miles in 30 minutes - not bad for an old lady with bionic knees!

YAY Beth for starting the post!!!!

I'm going to the gym in Bethlehem while Siehara is in Hebrew School.  I will get on a bike.. either spinner or recumbant, depending on what is available.  After Hebrew School, will head over to the gym in Whitehall for Pilates.

INstead of going to the gym in Bethlehem, I went for a walk on a wooded path at a nearby park.  It was way too nice out for being inside on a bike.

Went to pilates and she changed things up a bit, so it was tougher, but well worth it!

Beth,
We so need a like button on OH or Love it button. Kudos for starting the exercise thread. I have not been doing any informal exercise but trying to walk and move as much as I can. AND yes the feeling of puking does fade in time and GASP you will eventually look forward to your workouts!! I know sounds crazy but I never feel myself without doing some sort of moving around in a day.

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

Ok change of heart since my legs were achey - took the dog for a 1/2 mile walk instead.

RNY on 12/26/17
10 minutes on the elliptical (no resistance)  a few physical therapy exercises and 8 minutes on the bike... followed by ice and stim.  Still using crutches but really starting to feel better and with a lot less pain.  Yay!

You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!

haha beth, yes the pukey feeling DOES fade, and you realize that the endorphin rush you get from the workout is addictive in its own right ;-)

Had a late session at the gym tonight (7:30 - 8:30) with the trainer and one of the other women who did the commit to be fit class with me.  You can do so much MORE in an hour when working with just 2 people - we really beat ourselves up a bit.  Yikes!  I'm already sore... can't wait to see what it feels like tomorrow.

We focused on strength training, so did all kinds of stuff.  Had started out with 15 minutes on the elliptical as a warmup, so I also got some good cardio in. I will most definitely NOT be goign to the gym before work tomorrow.  Instead, i'll plan on going to yoga on saturday morning, and follow that up with a nice cardio workout (or maybe do it the other way around).

Karen,

I will say that this is hardest thing I feel I ever did for myself. Yet I keep fighting through every session it may take a while to do the task but I do it. One thing I did tell him was that the jumping jacks hurt too much because of the excess skin he was fine said ok we will do leg lifts.
When I got started with him I said "Look think of me as a newborn in the gym I will stumble and fall but will get it"

One day at a time because I am worth it!

you ARE worth it... and you're doing the right thing by communicating with him about what hurts so he can work around that.  It's all about finding alternatives that you CAN do, instead of focusing on what you CAN'T do, and persisting until you've achieved the goal.  And the goal may be the point of failure of that muscle group, which is a GOOD thing!

One way I like to look at my workouts is like that great quote from Michaelangelo about sculpting... that sculpting is a matter of seeing what's inside the block of marble and taking away everything that isn't part of that design.  My workouts are about "carving out" what "isn't" part of the healthy me, freeing it from the confines of what has gone before.  I used visualization early on in my walking of seeing my sweat as fat cells melting away, leaving behind the lean muscle.  Now, the sweat doesn't come as easily (have to work a lot harder to get to that point), I feel the muscles there, so it's more about working on targeting specific areas and getting them to FEEL a specific way.  Hard to put into words, but it's an active-mind process in addition to a workout body process.

If you go until you can't go anymore, the next time, it will be farther or heavier or longer until you reach that point of not being able to go anymore.  Failure is a good thing in this!

I'm so proud of you!  Yes, it's tough but it's SO worth it!
