As I eluded to in my roll call post...already did the work out for the day.

Week one day one of couch to 5k  It was def doable and, even more so, by FAR the BEST work out I have ever had on a treadmill before.  A little over 2 miles in 30 mins.  Huh.  Imagine that.  Use the resources available to you, and you begin a road of successing.  Who'd have thunk???

2+ miles in 30 minutes?? You were ROCKING that treadmill! I was lucky to get one mile in the other night in 30 minutes and was soaked to my undies! Well, gives me something to strive for...so what is this Couch to 5K thing everyone is talking about? Is it somewhere on line?

I am heading down to the clubhouse tonight to do another mile (at least) on the treadmill but since I'm just starting back on that again it will probably only be a mile - its a whole lot different walking on that thing and riding my exer-bike, where I can do 6 miles in 30 minutes. But hey, I'm moving, right??

They also have a very nice eliptical down there I might try out along the way, altho those have always been difficult for me - but now that I'm not pushing as much weight I might be able to do it.

It's available for the iphone as an app.  It's also available for ipods.  I prefer the app because you can also use your ipod feature on the iphone SIMUTANEOUSLY so you have your own playlist playing along with the voice cues as well as visual cues.

It's an approximatley 30 min work out, set up in interval training.  It's meant to be done in 8 or 9 weeks, but you can repeat weeks as needed until your comfortable.

All weeks are meant to be done 3 days a week, all the same per week.

Today's work out was:

5 min warm up (which I did at 3.5 mph)
Interval training.  60 seconds of running followed by 90 seconds of walking.  I did running at 4.5mph and walking at 4.0 mph
5 min cool down which I did at 3.5 mph

The speed is up to you.  That's what I was comfortable with.  So it'll be 3 days of that.  Hopefully today, friday, and sunday for me.  The screen changes color as a visual cue of when to walk and when to jog and a voice comes over and says "begin running" or "begin walking"  The music dims when that happens, but it's only for a second and then it comes back up. There's also a little chime that goes along with it.

My absolute goal is to jog the 5k.  In the really really big picture I'd like to be able to do so in 30 mins or under, but that may not be realistic.  I made the mistake of looking ahead at the weeks and got scared at week three.  HOWEVER, I then got myself together and realized I don't need to worry about week three on freaking day one of week one. I need to finish today's work out, and then finish this week and move on.

It really was QUITE manageable.

Thanks - I'll see if I can find it for my iPhone and download it - I'm not sure I'll ever be able to run or jog, tho - I tried a very short (maybe 5 seconds) of a slight job the other night on the treadmill but didn't feel comfortable doing it - but maybe after I'm on there a while I'll feel better about it.

Do you think I could use the intervals on my bike? I have interval programs on it but I can adjust it manually, too.

Thanks again...I'll let you know how I make out! Sadly I have too many mental images of me falling off that damn treadmill if I try to run, ala George Jetson 'JANE, GET ME OFF THIS CRAZY THING'! LOL!!

I would assume you could use the interval training on your bike....not sure how exactly it would work but it could happen

And you wouldn't fall NOR look like poor George!  You could also consider doing interval training/c25k with walking/speed walking as opposed to running.  Your objective would be to be able to "speed walk" a 5k as opposed to jog it.  Just as impressive I tell you!

I got the app on my iPhone but I never put playlists together on it because I have an MP3 I use, so I'll have to do that next. It does look interesting - I'll download the other one, too - I'd probably do better with speed walking than jogging. Thanks!!

60 minutes on the elliptical for me.

Treadmill is a great workout. I plan on getting back on one eventually.
