5k !!
My hubby and I (17 and 16 months out) are signing up to do a 5k in November. We have to start our "training" soon. My friend, who is doing it and runs full marathons and runs about 60 miles a week + since she was a teenager wants us to run it and not walk it. We shall see how far we get in the training! I am starting on my trampoline in the livingroom then I will move to the outside when it is almost dark. Not ready for anyone to see my skin jiggling when I run yet LOL
Who else has done a race after surgery? What worried me is even though I am past goal, I still have one knee that hurts when I run or walk on places like the sand. I am sure I ruined myself from being so fat for so long. How did you do in your first?

I will let you know Monday-- I am running my first 5k on Sunday. I am running the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure in Maryland. I started with the C25K and then altered it a bit around week 5 when I was struggling. I am doing pretty well now, I think. I don't particularly like distance running, but I love intervals as walking seems too slow these days. I have knee issues and they really hurt the first few weeks-- I had to stretch a lot but your body adapts and I don't have as many problems now. The best piece of advice I was given was to go SLOWWWWWW. I was really upset as I would run, get out of breath quickly and my side would burn, etc. I could not seem to run longer than a few minutes at a time. A friend of mine who is a runner said I was going too fast. She recommended that I slow down so much that it actually feels awkward and start there. By doing that I found I could run for quite awhile at a time. I would alternate slow longer runs with intervals and have found I have gotten faster and it is much easier.
As for the skin, I know what you mean. I recommend spending the money for good compression gear-- I like Under Armour or Reebok-- I like the capri length as I have huge thigh skin issues and I don't chafe and I don't jiggle nearly as much!
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, Dawn! Good luck to you on your race. Please come back and let me know how you did! I called my friend who is a runner to ask her about training, etc. Also about eating. I got that EXTREME hunger shortly after I ran and she said that was normal. She has been running her whole life and gets nausea a lot so it is normal I guess. Pushing ourselves is not something we are used to so doing it is going to feel great!
