Good Morning PA!!

Where do you purchase your protein on-line?  I'm specifically looking for Nectar product.  I'm starting to stock up for our December surgeries.

Thanks alot!!

Hi Amy,

I wouldn't buy big tubs of protein powder just yet---you may find that your tastes change after surgery.  I would suggest buying sample size packs to have on hand.  I know vitalady sells sample sizes of Nectar; not sure where else you can get them.  Netrition.com is a great source for protein and other supplies and goodies too.

Thanks, Julia!  I'll take your suggestion!!  I just want to make sure I'm prepared.  My husband is having the procedure too.  I keep thinking in my head it's going to be double the work to get ready for this life changing experience.

I wouldn't stock up on too much of anything, even though both you and hubby are having surgery.  I know after my surgery, I didn't want to drink anything other than tea---nothing tasted good---and I got tired of sweet stuff.  Have a few things on hand, see what you like post-op, then pick stuff up.

Good luck to both of you!!!

I agree that your tastes may change and stocking up could backfire but, to answer your question...

I get Click Vanilla Latte on amazon.com or netrition.com. I also get Syntrax Nectars and other yum flavors like Cappucinno from netrition.com also.

These are my 2 favorite brands. Lots of good flavors from Syntrax. I did get the sample packages right after surgery and I keep a couple in my purse for when I can't grab something to eat.

I will also say that right after surgery the taste of coffee made me want to puke. The smell was still good to me but I felt very sick with even one sip. I was a 'pot-a-day' girl before surgery. Now that I'm almost 10 months out, I enjoy coffee again - yep, even decaf. So, if you are like me, the Click and the Cappucinno are great to have on hand. I also like the Fuzzy Navel, Iced Tea, Pink Grapefruit & Lemonade flavors from Syntrax.

Oh, just remembered, I also get Body Fortress from Walmart in the Vanilla (has a coconut taste to it to me, very good) and Chocolate (for mixing up recipes, not my favorite flavor, but, it'll do in a pinch.) I get these when I run out of "the good stuff" and can't get my online order placed.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your surgeries!!

PS - bjsbariatrics.com also has Syntrax samples very reasonably priced and bariatriceating.com has some great protein powder flavors too. The peanut butter cookie is way good!

Hi Amy,

I'm in agreement with the others as far as waiting before stocking up.

When Gene had his surgery all the protein powders we had stocked up prior to surgery because he liked them, he hated after his surgery.  They went to waste and we had to go back to the beginning to find one that he liked.

I on the other hand was determined to use the same powder that we keep in the house.  I prefer it made much differently than he does.

Right after my surgery so that I didn't have to mix up the protein shakes we did buy a case of Oh-Yeah protein pre-made drinks for me.  They came in bottles with screw on caps so I could drink what my pouch would hold then keep sipping on them till they were gone each day.  It took me an entire day to drink one proten drink in the beginning.

Now I just keep powder at work and mix as I need them.

Gene hates them made the way I enjoy them  I've also found I can't use skim milk with mine, I use unsweetend Almond milk.  For Gene he prefers Soy Milk and I add fruit and blend his protein shakes in the blender then freeze them so he has them available when he's ready for one.  I hate them frozen and when I blend them they upset my pouch so I can't blend mine.

I find it fascinating how our tastes are so different after this surgery.

I agree, tastes do change.  One good choice is Slimfast Low Carb.  In your area (my area too) I can only find it at Sam's Club bythe mall and they only carry it in Chocolate.  It tastes good to me and has 20g protein and only 1g Sugar.  if you stock up now on lots of stuff, you may trash a lot of it later.  Sugar free jello and Sugar free popsicles and the Slimfast is what I lived on for a few weeks.  Then I was thrilled to add egg beaters and ricotta with a teaspoon of sauce added.  oddly now I can not eat SF jello...it taste too sweet.   Good luck!

Amy,
I am getting my protein powder on line through Unjury.  Not too bad tasting.  They have chocolate, vanilla, strawberry sorbet, chicken broth (my favorite), unflavored which can be mixed with anything.  They have a variety sample pack . Good luck with your search.
